JSW Infrastructure

JSW Infrastructure, a major player in India’s port sector and an essential arm of the JSW Group, has recently revealed a significant achievement—the receipt of a letter of award for the establishment of an advanced, all-weather, deep-water greenfield port in Keni, Karnataka. Valued at Rs.4,119 crore, this port project is slated to unfold through a public-private partnership, marking a substantial leap forward in fortifying maritime infrastructure and trade in North Karnataka.

Unveiling the Project

In unveiling the Keni Port project, JSW Infrastructure underscores its dedication to contemporary, environmentally conscious, and mechanized facilities, specifically crafted for handling cape-size vessels. The initial phase is geared to handle a capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), with ample room for future expansion. Nestled strategically between Mormugao Port in the north and New Mangalore Port in the south, Keni Port emerges as a pivotal player in the region.

Strategic Location and Objectives

Conceived as an all-weather, greenfield, multi-cargo, direct berthing, deep-water commercial port, Keni Port is set to cater to diverse cargo needs. Its strategic location aligns with the vision of serving industries in the North Karnataka region, spanning Bellary, Hosapete, Hubballi, Kalaburagi, and South Maharashtra. The proximity to operational major ports solidifies its standing as a critical trade gateway.

Transportation Network: JSW Infrastructure

JSW Infrastructure sheds light on the planned rail connectivity for Keni Port, positioned on the southern side and intricately linked to the existing Konkan line north of the Ankola station. With an approximately 8 km railway alignment, the port ensures efficient transportation. Additionally, the well-established road and railway connectivity in the vicinity promises seamless cargo movement.

JSW Infrastructure’s Pledge

Aurn Maheshwar, CEO, and Joint MD of JSW Infrastructure, articulates the company’s steadfast commitment to molding Keni Port as a fundamental component of Karnataka’s maritime infrastructure and trade gateway. Envisioned to play a pivotal role in addressing the escalating import and export trade momentum in the region, the operational Keni Port is poised to leave a lasting imprint on India’s maritime landscape.
