Group A:
The selection for Group A posts is done through an examination. The candidates have to appear for the UPSC examination to qualify for the Group-A posts. The UPSC selection process involves a preliminary examination, mains examination, and an interview. The jobs available under this group are technical as well as non-technical jobs.

Educational Criteria for Graduation from Distance or Non-Formal Education
In the case of candidates graduating through distance or non-formal education, they must meet any of the two eligibility criteria mentioned below:
- Candidate’s age must not be below 18 years as of 1st July of the year of admission to the course (graduation)
- A candidate has enrolled in a 3-year degree program via distance or non-formal education by qualifying for an entrance test.
- The candidate must have passed 12th class from a recognized board.

Railway Recruitment Board NTPC Eligibility – Physical Fitness
Candidates shortlisted for the document verification have to pass the physical fitness test taken by the Railway Administration. Candidates clearing the medical test and fit to carry out the duties are considered in the merit list. Below are the medical standards required:

- The RRB NTPC examination is a computer-based test.
- It will be an objective type multiple choice question examination.
- The total number of questions is 100.
- Each question carries 1 mark.
- Negative marking is applicable. For every wrong answer or multiple answers to one question, 1/3 marks will be deducted.
- The time duration of the examination is 1.5 hours (90 minutes).
- The examination duration for PWD candidates is 2 hours (120 minutes).
Minimum Passing marks
- UR (Unreserved)- 40 percent
- SC (Scheduled Castes)- 30 percent
- OBC- NCL (Other Backward Classes- Non-Creamy Layer)- 30 percent
- EWS (Economically Weaker Sections)- 40 percent
- ST (Scheduled Tribes)- 25 percent
These percentages of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2 percent for PwBD candidates in case of a shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies reserved for them.

- The RRB NTPC examination is a computer-based test.

RRB NTPC Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Candidates applying for the post of Traffic Assistant and the Station Master need to take the CBAT.
- Candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42marks in each test battery to qualify. This is applicable to all categories, and no relaxation in the minimum T-Score is provided.
- Candidates must qualify in each test battery of CBAT to be considered for recruitment.
- The CBAT has questions and answers options in both English and Hindi. Negative marking is not applicable.
- Merit list will be made only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the CBAT, with 70 percent weightage for marks obtained in Stage- II CBT and 30 percent weightage for marks obtained in CBAT.
Typing Skill Test (TST)
- This test is qualifying in nature.
- Eight times the number of vacancies will be called for typing test.
- The candidates should type 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on a Computer without the editing tools and spell check facility.
Document Verification (DV)
Based on the performance of candidates in Stage II and the performance of candidates in both Stage- II CBT and CBAT/ TST (as applicable).
