The University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) for determining the eligibility of suitable candidates. UGC-NET is conducted twice a year. Step 3- You have to enter your UGC NET Application Number and date of birth or Password.

  9. Number of candidates who appeared for a particular subject

How To Check UGC NET Result If Application Number Is Lost?

Many times candidates forget their application number which is required for checking results. So a simple process is made available to retrieve to re-generate your application number. Following are the simple steps to re-generate application numbers:

  1. Go to the official website of UGC NET Result.
  2. Click on the link available for checking UGC NET Result.
  3. Then click on the “Forgot Application No.” link.
  4. Enter details like name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth and security pin as available on the screen.
  5. Then click on ‘Get Application Number’.

This is how the application number is re-generated and candidates can use this number to check their UGC NET results.

UGC NET Result Preparation Norms And Minimum Qualifying Marks

A highly qualified committee is set in place for deciding the results of the best candidates. Below mentioned steps are the procedure:

Step 1: It is suited that qualifying candidates should be 6% of the candidates appearing for the exam in both the papers of UGC NET.

Step 2: As per the reservation policy of the Government, total slots are allocated to different categories.

Step 3: Candidates are required to score minimum qualifying marks to be considered for ‘JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor’ or ‘eligibility for Assistant Professor only’ and should also appear for both papers.

The minimum qualifying marks are 40% in the general category and 35% for SC, ST, OBC, PWD, and transgender.  

Step 4: The number of candidates declared qualified in any subject for a particular category is derived using a formula subject-wise for each category.

Step 5: Candidates who apply for JRF and eligibility of Assistant Professor out of the total number of qualifying candidates (derived as per step 4) are considered for JRF.

Step 6: Total slots available for awarding JRF are allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of the Government of India and is determined using a formula based on candidates belonging and qualified for a particular category with the total slots available and candidates belonging to that category for all papers and are qualified.

What Next After The UGC NET Result?

All the candidates who have qualified for the exams will be issued e-certificates and JRF award letters. They can apply for the post of Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. They can also pursue research in the chosen project. This UGC eligibility certificate will be valid for a lifetime and the award letter will be valid for three years from the date of issue.

Frequently asked questions

Can I receive the UGC NET Result through SMS?

You can get an intimation SMS of the declaration of the result. However, you can check the result only by logging in to the official website and not through SMS.

Is there any process for the re-evaluation of the UGC NET Result?

There is no provision for re-checking or re-evaluation of UGC NET results as there is a specific provision as no correspondence shall be handled in this regard.

Can I appear for the UGC NET exam if I have not cleared this time?

Yes, you can again appear next year if you meet the eligibility criteria of the examination.

What is the validity of the UGC NET eligibility certificate?

Only those who have scored minimum marks and are in the top 6 percent will clear the exam. So you may have scored minimum marks but you would not be in the top 6 percent. Hence, you are not qualified as an Assistant Professor.
