The 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is honoring the illustrious wildlife filmmaker Shri Subbiah Nallamuthu by conferring upon him the much coveted V. Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award, announced Dr. L. Murugan, the Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting today.

His passion for the Royal Bengal Tiger has translated into five tiger-centric international documentaries for the National Geographic Channel and BBC. His prolific filmography includes Tiger Dynasty (2012-2013), Tiger Queen (2010), and The World’s Most Famous Tiger (2017). Shri Subbiah Nallamuthu has won several national and international awards including the five National Film Awards

The prestigious Dr.V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award is presented in every edition of MIFF, to a filmmaker for seminal contribution to documentary films and its movement in India. It carries a cash award of 10 lakh rupees, a trophy, and a citation. Other illustrious recipients of the award in previous years include Shyam Benegal, Vijaya Mulay, and another prominent filmmaker.

RBI cancels license of Purvanchal Co-op Bank, Ghazipur

The Reserve Bank has canceled the license of Purvanchal Co-operative Bank, Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh as it does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Uttar Pradesh has also been asked to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator, the RBI said in a statement.

On liquidation, every depositor would be entitled to receive a deposit insurance claim amount of his/her deposits up to ₹5 lakh only from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC). As per the data submitted by the Purvanchal Co-operative Bank, about 99.51% of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from DICGC.

ESAF SFB to discontinue business correspondent services of ESMACO

ESAF Small Finance Bank (ESAF SFB) has decided to discontinue the services of business correspondent ESAF Swasraya Multi-State Agro Co-operative Society Limited (ESMACO) to reduce concentration risks and absorb its 5,000 plus employees on the rolls of the lender. The discontinuation will reduce the contribution of ESMACO to the management of the gross advances to 14.90 %.

Fitch Ratings quarterly Global Economic Outlook report published today also depicted raised the world growth forecast for 2024 to 2.6% from 2.4%.
