Finland Is World’s Happiest Country For 7th Time Straight

India was ranked 126th out of 143 nations in a global happiness index which noted that older age is associated with higher life satisfaction in the world’s most populous country. Finland emerged as the happiest country in the world, topping the World Happiness Report 2024, the seventh successive year that the country has occupied the top spot on the list.

The other top 10 countries are Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Israel, Netherlands, Norway, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Australia. The World Happiness Report is a partnership of Gallup, the Oxford Wellbeing Research Centre, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the WHR’s Editorial Board.

The US (23rd) has fallen out of the top 20 for the first time since the World Happiness Report was first published in 2012, driven by a large drop in the well-being of Americans under 30.

Afghanistan remains bottom of the overall rankings as the world’s ‘unhappiest’ nation. Pakistan is ranked 108th on the list.

Bihar’s Begusarai, ‘world’s most polluted city in 2023’; India ranks 3rd globally: Swiss Report

Bihar’s Begusarai topped the list as the “most polluted metropolitan area in 2023”, while Delhi has been identified as the capital city with the “poorest air quality” among global nations, as per the findings of the World Air Quality Report 2023 by the Swiss organization IQAir.

India ranked third worst out of 134 countries in terms of average annual PM2.5 concentration, trailing behind Bangladesh and Pakistan, as highlighted in this 6th Annual World Air Quality Report, which unveils concerning insights into the world’s most polluted countries, territories, and regions.

PM stands for particulate matter, with 2.5 representing its size, specifically 2.5 microns, or 1/30th the diameter of a single strand of hair.

PM2.5 pollution has been linked to increased rates of heart attack and stroke. It can also cause oxidative stress, which is essentially damage to the body’s cells at a rate faster than they can repair themselves.

47th Meeting of National Committee of Archivists held in Srinagar

The two-days 47th Meeting of the National Committee of Archivists (NCA) was concluded at the Sher-e Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. Delegates from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh participated in the meeting.

The two-day meeting was held to revitalize the archives administration and records management system across states and Union Territories.

RBI approves re-designation of Manian, Ekambaram of Kotak Mahindra Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the re-designation of K V S Manian and Shanti Ekambaram, Whole-time Directors of Kotak Mahindra Bank, as Joint Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director, respectively.

This was the first major overhaul at the leadership level after Ashok Vaswani came on board as the managing director & chief executive officer of the bank.

RBI fines TMB, DCB nearly ₹2 crore for violating norms on lending rates

Reserve Bank of India, on March 13, imposed a penalty of ₹1.3 crores on Tamilnad Mercantile Bank for non-compliance with directions on ‘Interest Rate on Advances’ and ‘Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC) – Revision in Reporting’.

The central bank also fined DCB Bank ₹63.6 lakhs for breach of norms on ‘Interest Rate on Advances’.

The supervisory inspection for FY22 showed that the bank had failed to benchmark interest rates on certain floating rate loans to MSMEs to an external benchmark lending rate; had adopted multiple benchmarks within the same loan category, and failed to price certain floating rate loans concerning the actual benchmark rate applicable.

It also wrongly reported the external rating of certain borrowers to CRILC.
