4th EMRS National Cultural Fest 2023

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), a part of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, is hosting the 4th National EMRS Cultural, Literary, and Kala Utsav – 2023. This event is taking place in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from October 3rd to October 6th.

The occasion witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Arjun Munda, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Smt. Renuka Singh Saruta, and other esteemed guests.

About 4th National EMRS Cultural, Literary and Kala Utsav 2023

The four-day event will see the enthusiastic participation of over 1500+ students from Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across the country. This year’s event will also highlight the artistic talents of these school students through the Kala Utsav.

Recognizing the importance of integrating tribal communities into the mainstream and providing them with equal opportunities for development in various fields, the Ministry has been organizing EMRS Cultural Fests and Sports Meets annually. These events offer a national platform for tribal students to showcase their hidden talents in various domains.

For this year’s event, the Eklavya Vidyalaya Sangathan Samiti (EVSS) in Uttarakhand, which is the State EMRS Society, will host it at Maharana Pratap Sports College in Dehradun.

About Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS)

Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) is a Government of India scheme designed to establish model residential schools for Indian tribals, specifically those from Scheduled Tribes, across the country. It is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, The Government of India. It underwent significant revamping in 2018-19 to ensure the delivery of quality education to tribal students in remote tribal areas.

Objectives

  • Provide quality education to ST students from Class VI to XII, with a focus on holistic development.
  • Bridge the educational gap between ST students and non-ST students.
  • Preserve and promote tribal culture and heritage.
  • Empower ST students and prepare them to become successful members of society.

EMRS has been successful in achieving its objectives. They have helped to improve the educational attainment of ST students. Also, to reduce the educational gap between ST students and non-ST students. EMRS has also played a role in preserving and promoting tribal culture and heritage.
