Since its inception in 1924, the department has produced a slew of legal luminaries, Supreme Court and High Court judges, excellent advocates, political leaders, policymakers, and trend-setters. It is equally a great place for any UPSC aspirant. YES! You have coaching classes nearby with the faculty situated in the heart of North Campus, University of Delhi.
Introduction
Even though the current LLB intake stands at 2400 students, getting into this elite law school is no easy task. Given that the institution brings in variety and draws excellent minds from all over the country for a low cost (about INR 15,000/- for three years), the entrance exam is pretty (or ridiculously!) competitive. The DU LLB entrance exam is taken by close to 20,000 candidates every year to enter the LL.B. course at the University of Delhi.
However, given that the Entrance paper comprises questions to test your knowledge of only the relevant happenings or must-know facts, cracking the exam is possible with the preparation of one month. Since the exam dates have not been declared for the entrance and assuming they might be conducted in the first week of August 2022, Oliveboard is bringing to you this blog to help curate your strategy for cracking DU-LLB entrance 2022 in one month.
Step 1 – Know the Syllabus!
The LLB Admission Exam at Delhi University is a university-level entrance exam. The National Testing Agency (NTA) administers it to students seeking admission to law school.
Before you start making your strategy, you should know the syllabus. This is the very first step in cracking any competitive examination.
The sectional breakup of the syllabus is as follows –

Rewarding sections or topics of the DU-LLB Entrance 2022
Apart from knowing the syllabus, it is also important to know which sections or topics yield the highest ROI (Return on Investment). As per the analysis of the previous years’ question papers:
- Indian Constitution and Polity yield the maximum number of questions in the paper. These topics appear in the legal aptitude and General Knowledge sections and are mostly straightforward to solve, yielding the maximum numbers.
- Analytical Reasoning questions are also on the easier side. Having a hang of the type of questions asked on this topic and an ample amount of practice from the previous year’s question papers should be enough.
- Vocabulary & Word Power questions in the English section are most dominating. Preparing from them is also a very good idea because of the ROI.
Question paper pattern
You should also know the exact pattern of the question paper –

DU-LLB entrance 2022 in one month : Strategy
Now that you have a hang of the syllabus, the taste of the question paper and the list of high reward topics, you have the edge in curating a strategy for cracking DU-LLB entrance 2022 in one month.
Following are the tips and tricks you should pay heed to –
Curate a study plan
To be able to clear any competitive examination, the first idea should be to curate a study plan.
- Go through the syllabus and the rewarding topics, and the sub-topics within. Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
- Pay an equal amount of time to both – weaknesses and strengths. Strengths fetch you the marks, while working on weaknesses ensures that you retain them (by minimising negatives).
- Make sure that you have goals and targets for each day. (Sources have been quoted in the next section is help you navigate the topics).
- Weekends are the most fun part of the preparation schedule.
- First, have fun. Remember that “all work and no play”, makes you a dull person.
- Attempt full-length mock tests for other law entrances as well.
- Revise the entire week’s work.
Here is a rough schedule for dividing your 30 days of preparation.
Sl. no, | What to do? | For how many Days? |
1. | Gain Conceptual Clarity for all topics of the syllabus. | 15 days |
2. | Full Revision | 10 days |
3. | Rapid revision | 5 days |
4. | Practice | After reading every topic and one mock per weekend. |
Gain Conceptual Clarity
Out of the 30 days, the first 20 days should be invested in gaining conceptual clarity. Now understand that mere rote learning is different from conceptual clarity. Attaining the latter requires that you pay undivided attention and seek for application of the knowledge gained.
Step 1 – Refer to sources for each topic (1-2 per topic. Anything beyond that has diminishing marginal returns.) – For each of the topics listed in the syllabus section above, read sources as mentioned below.
Section | Books and sources | Tips and Tricks |
English Language | Wren and Martin for High School Grammar or Oxford HandBook for GrammarWord Power Made Easy – Norman LewisEditorial of leading newspapers like The Hindu, Indian Express, etc., | The passages may be from various technical and scientific topics. Read extensively. The Grammar portion, especially the well-established rules in Parts of Speech, will be of immense help in solving tricky questions.Make sure you stop whenever you come across a term you don’t understand, whether in the newspaper, a textbook or even while watching a show on the internet and look it up in a dictionary. |
Analytical Ability | Analytical Reasoning (English) by MK Pandey.A Modern Approach to Logical Reasoning by RS Aggarwal.Arihant’s A New Approach to Verbal and Analytical Reasoning. | This area sports the easiest questions of the paper. Hence practice with past years’ papers should suffice. Be in tune with the trends of the questions asked, which areas are important, which topics yield the maximum number of questions, etc. |
Legal Aptitude | Any available preparatory material like the “Legal Awareness Legal Reasoning” or “Legal Aptitude for the CLAT and other Law Entrance Examinations” by Bhardwaj Keep a tab on hot news and important judgments listed on LiveLaw or Bar&Bench | Aim for a cursory understanding of the law and its application – Read important sections from Bare Texts of Indian Contract Act, Indian Penal Code, etc. Aid this with recent developments – To follow the news means to follow the trends and patterns of the ever-changing dynamics of society, and thereby the laws or the need to outlaw them. Also, learn Legal maxims and their meanings by heart. (you’ll find the compendiums online). |
General Knowledge | Newspapers like The Hindu, Indian Express, etc. You can also search google for any static facts related to the current events you read in the newspaper.Lakshmikanth for “Indian Polity”. This will also help with your preparation of the Indian Constitution. Aid this with Bare text and important judgments.Monthly fact Compendium for the past year. All the appointments, awards & honours, offices held, or National/International summits will be listed here. Lucent’s GK or Manorama | Always rely on a decent newspaper for current events. To broaden your horizons, read a good magazine and make timely notes. You can also sign up for a monthly or biweekly magazine that provides concise and well-organized information. Both Legal GK and Current GK have to be given equal importance. Remember, the latest pattern also tests your ability to know the causes or effects of a particular event. So, it would help if you made an effort to understand the world’s affairs.Static GK portion has always been a lengthy and unpredictable section. But you can ace it by working systematically and smartly. Try to jot down bullet points and not just mug up things. Always understand the importance of keywords that can strike your mind on exam day. |
Step 2 – Practice – As per Aristotelian Nicomachean Ethics, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” Get as much practice as you can to score decently in the DU-LLB Entrance 2022.
It is only when you start practising that you learn a few inherent concepts, like –
- Small changes to the wording of a principle can make a big difference to the outcome of a question. For example, the “Or” and “AND” situations.
- Similarly, small tweaks to the facts can also have a big impact on the outcome of a question.
Now, where can you get that practice from?
- Previous year question papers (At least past 10 years), and
- Mock tests
Also, “Practice makes a man perfect”. And continuously testing yourself makes practice perfect.
Test | Ideal Day |
Topic-wise test | Ater completion of each Topic |
Sectional test | Every weekend (of as many sections as you’ve touched upon that week) |
Full-length test | At least 5 (you can use previous year’s question papers). |
Revise
The step of revision goes parallel with studying and testing. Your revision should be focused on 3 laps – every day, every week and final rapid revision. This is because reading a subject or topic once does not help you retain it –
- Dedicate at least one hour every day to revising all that you’ve read the entire day. This will help you synergize the study and apply it better.
- After gaining conceptual clarity and revision every day for the first 15 days, the next set of 10 days should go to a re-iteration of the entire syllabus.
- Next would be revising all that you’ve read so far before taking a full-length test. You should take up a rapid revision as the last leg of your preparation for DU-LLB entrance 2022 in one month.
