IB ACIO 2021 – Section-Wise Tips & Tricks

IB ACIO 2021 Tier I exam date is yet to be announced. We hope you are at the last phase of exam preparation. Here, we bring to you section-wise tips and tricks including suggestive time allocation strategy. However, what works for some may not work for others. Use this only as a guideline & not as a target. If something is working well for you, you can continue to use the same strategy. Before moving on to the tips, let’s have a look at the exam pattern.

BODMAS Rule

Stick to the BODMAS rule and perform calculation in the correct sequence.

• Bracket (), {}, [] is the order
• Order (Powers, Square Roots etc.)
• Division
• Multiplication
• Addition
• Subtraction

Conversion of decimal numbers to nearest number

Example: Solve 4433.852 – 2211.884 – 1133.999 + 3377.312

Here,

4433.852 = 4434

2211.884 = 2212

1133.999 = 1134

3377.312 = 3377

Now simplify, 4434 –  2212 – 1134 + 3377 = 4466

Analogy

Comparison or establishing a relationship between two elements to draw similarity. Example: Country and Currency (Japan – Yen, UAE – Dinar, India – Rupee), Animal and Baby (Lion – Cub, Dog – Puppy, Cat – Kitten), Unit and Class (Cup – Crockery)

English Language

Error Spotting

1. Nouns that possess singular form but depicts plural. Example: Cattle, People, Police, Military etc.

The military was called out (incorrect)

The military were called out (correct)

2. Few nouns always take the plural verb as their form is plural. Example: Spectacles, Trousers, Premises etc.

The spectacles is kept on the table (incorrect)

The spectacles are kept on the table (correct)

3. Two or more singular subjects that is connected by ‘and’ usually goes with a verb in the plural.

Meera and Sheela is here (incorrect)

Meera and Sheela are here (correct)

Phrase Replacement

1. When Adjectives like much, less, little and more are used as nouns, they are followed by a singular verb.

Example: Less than a million of rupees are required immediately.

2. When two subjects are connected by as well as, the verb is according to the first subject.

Example: She as well as her mother is going to London.

3. When a singular form of noun depicts a whole class, ‘the’ is used.

Example: The mango is considered as the king of fruits.

Reading Comprehension

1. Choose one and only if time permits, attempt the other
2. Choose the one with less number of words and topic that you are closer to understanding
3. Questions and information in the passage is linked. Example: first question will have its relevance in the first paragraph or first few lines.
