Success Story of Yatin Dhamija
Hey Guys, I am Yatin Dhamija from Himachal Pradesh. I have completed my B.Com in 2015 from Shahid Bhagat Singh College, New Delhi. While I was in my final year, I started preparing for CAT and managed to score 98.27 percentile in CAT 2014. But I think I had an inclination to join the Government sector and thus decided to prepare for UPSC after my Graduation. Meanwhile, during my preparation for UPSC, I did give other government exams as well. To be honest, as I was preparing for UPSC, I managed to do well in other Banking exams as well.
Having said that, in 2016 I cleared SBI PO. Back then I remember I used to give mocks tests from Oliveboard which was very helpful. I worked as an SBI PO for 10 months but then I had to leave my job so that I can prepare myself better for the RBI GRADE B exam. So after resigning in Oct 2017 I devoted all my time to prepare for the RBI Grade B exam. I did manage to reach the interview in 2017 but could not get into the final selection list.
All these failures never let me down and I kept myself motivated. I gave all that was needed to prepare myself best for the RBI Grade B. Meanwhile, I also cleared NABARD Grade A in 2018 and joined as an Assistant Manager in Nabard, Lucknow. All throughout my journey of ups and downs, the only thing I was very sure of was that I perform even better in the 2018 RBI Grade B exams. This time I tried to keep a balance between my work and preparation and my dedication showed true colours. Finally, in 2018 I was able to clear the RBI Grade B exam with AIR 24.
Having said that, I am glad that Oliveboard gave me an opportunity to share my journey with you. I hope it will be beneficial for all the aspirants who want to prepare for Government exams.
My Preparation Strategy
Quants:
As I have already mentioned that I was preparing for CAT during my final year, so my foundation was strong. All I needed was good practice. Oliveboard provides mock tests as per the latest pattern and syllabus which helped me immensely to track my preparation.
Reasoning:
Generally, reasoning questions can be time taking. So try and solve the questions within a dedicated time frame. Try to opt for 3-4 DI & puzzles in the exam. It’s very important to analyse the easy and difficult questions in the paper and accordingly opt for the scoring ones. This comes only by practice. So practice as many reasoning questions as you can and try to analyse the technique to solve each question.
English:
It’s very important that your basics are clear in English. Try to focus more on grammar and less on vocab as you get more questions from the Grammar section only. You can refer to Grammar Book by Wren & Martin to clear your basics.
GK:
Try to check different sources and compilations present online to prepare for this section. Also, give as many GK quizzes as you can.
Descriptive:
Read the newspaper daily to keep yourself updated with the recent happenings in India and across the World. Try to write one essay daily on different topics which are important. Do not forget to practice for Precis writing as well. Even the reading comprehension part can be a scoring section in the exam as it generally asks around 6 questions related to the passage which can be answered directly and can be scoring.
Generally in RBI Grade B exams, you get to write essays on recent topics. Like in 2018 the topic was related to Demonetization. So it’s always advisable to prepare around such topics.
