SBI CBO vs SBI PO: State Bank of India which is the largest public sector bank in India has recently announced 1422 vacancies for the post of SBI Circle Based Officer or SBI CBO on 17th October 2022. What is SBI CBO?

SBI CBO stands for Circle Based Officer, it is a post similar to the SBI PO and the grade provided to the SBI CBO is JMGS Scale-1 which is equivalent to the grade offered to the SBI PO (after the probation period).

The SBI CBO is open to all those candidates who have a minimum of 2 years of experience as an officer in any of the scheduled commercial banks or regional rural banks. In addition to that SBI CBO need to undergo a 6 month probation period after which they are enlisted full time in SBI as SBI CBO in JMGS-1 or Junior Management Grade Scale-1.

The SBI CBO is expected to manage the core branch operations of the bank as well as oversee the banking operations in a branch. The other responsibilities include approving loans, customer relationship management and policy implementation in their respective branches.

What is SBI PO? 

SBI PO or probationary officer is one of the most coveted jobs in the banking sector in India, and fresh graduates are selected for this position based on a competitive exam held by SBI.

The SBI PO requires no prior work experience as required for the SBI CBO. The candidates selected as SBI PO need to undergo a 2 year probation period after which their services are confirmed with SBI as JMGS-1.

The SBI PO is expected to supervise clerical activities, the opening of bank accounts, customer service and relationship management, loan processing etc.

SBI CBO Salary Structure

Candidates selected as SBI CBO will have a salary structure of Rs.36000-1490/7-46430-1740/2- 49910-1990/7-63840. It means that SBI CBO will receive a basic pay of Rs.36000 and an increment of Rs.1490 for the next 7 years. The next phase will be the basic salary of Rs.46430 and an increment of Rs.1740 for 2 years followed by basic pay of Rs.49910 and an increment of Rs.1990 for 7 years. The maximum basic pay that can be drawn by SBI CBO will be Rs.63840.

The candidates are also eligible for one increment in their basic pay for each completed year of service rendered in the officer cadre in Scheduled Commercial Bank/ Regional Rural Bank as on 01.12.2021. However, the maximum advance increment has been capped at 2 (two), irrespective of the duration of experience gained in previous employment.

SBI PO Salary Structure

According to the official notification of 2021, the starting basic pay of SBI PO is Rs. 41,960/- (with 4 advance increments) on the scale of Rs. 41960-980 (7) – 48820 – 1145 (2) – 51110 – 1310 (7) – 60280 applicable to Junior Management Grade Scale-I. This revised salary and increment structure are as per the Bipartite Settlement. SBI PO Salary in terms of CTC will be ₹8.20₹13.08 LPA depending on the place of posting and other factors.

Work Experience

SBI CBO requires the candidates to have a minimum of 2 years of work experience as an officer in any Scheduled Commercial Bank or any Regional Rural Bank. While for SBI PO, there is no requirement of work experience, fresh graduates, as well as experienced candidates, can apply for SBI PO.

SBI CBO job roles and responsibilities are managing core branch operations, processing of loans, overseeing banking operations, customer relationship management and implementation of policies in the branch.
