How to Divide Preparation
There are two sections in which you need to divide the preparation – one is with focus on accuracy, the other on speed.
Subjective | Practice |
– Focus on accuracy – Live classes – Recorded batch – Self Study – Offline | – Focus on speed – YouTube Classes – Mock Test – Books |
Subjective Preparation
Candidates should first focus on the subjective preparation of the content of Prelims and Mains. This means grasping the basics, the concepts, and mastering the theory of the subjects. This aspect of preparation mainly focuses on accuracy through mastery of the concepts and content. It is recommended that candidates spend a total of 6 hours daily for their preparation.
How to do Subjective Preparation
- Candidates can make use of live classes, recorded classes, or offline classes to do this.
- Self-study is also a big part of subjective preparation as candidates themselves should become familiar with the subjects in ways that they find effective. This allows organic learning and a grassroots-level understanding of the subjects.
- Candidates should begin this preparation topic-wise. Going topic-wise, practicing solved questions from the topic and clearing all the aspects of it before moving on to the next one ensures that the candidate is clear about the specific concept. Starting multiple topics at once leads to confusion and panic as grasping too many concepts at once makes learning any of them ineffective.
- You should dedicate a minimum of 3 out of 6 hours for subjective preparation of any topic. These three hours can cover English, Quant, and Reasoning, or even just Quant and Reasoning.
- For GA make sure to make daily or weekly notes on the news and happenings around the world. You can make use of Oliveboard’s Weekly Current Affairs, or Oliveboard Monthly BOLT for this purpose.
Preparation through Practice
The other half of preparation for SBI Clerk is the preparation you do through practice. This involves mock tests, online practice sessions, use of practice material to cover as many different types and levels of questions for various topics. Out of the 6 hours you should devote to preparation, spend 3 of it on this part. Here’s how to do this effectively.
How to Practice
- The rest of the 3 out of 6 hours should be spent in practice. This is more focused on speed and building familiarity with the flow of solving questions.
- YouTube online classes are free and resourceful when it comes to solving questions. Oliveboard itself provides dedicated topic-wise YouTube sessions for solving practice MCQs which are in accordance with the exam level. Joining these not only allows you access to a dynamic source of practice material but also exposes you to quicker and easier methods of solving problems.
- A vital and unskippable part of preparation for any exam is doing mock tests. These are necessary to understand the environment of the test, assess your own temperament, and focus in real-time. Oliveboard provides both overall and sectional mock tests which you can attempt when you want to test your preparation for any topic or subject. Remember that the focus here should be not just speed but also accuracy.
- Make sure to have at least one book of practice questions. Arihant Publications and S Chand are some reputable and recommended sources. You can also make use of free PDFs available online. However, you should make sure these are of quality and the level you want to practice. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too much material and focus on a few quality practice materials.
- Whenever you do mock tests, it is important to analyze your attempts right after. This will ensure you understand your strengths and weaknesses, know which questions you spent too much time on, and which topics you need to increase your accuracy or speed for.
