Important Welfare Schemes of Tamil Nadu Government

1. Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme 2021 (“healthcare at doorstep” scheme)

Beneficiaries: Citizens above 45 years of age

Launched: August 2021

Concerned Department: Department of Health and Family Welfare

Concerned District: 8 districts

Scheme Details :

  • To provide enhanced treatment and quality of life for all.
  • The health workers will screen those with infirmities through routine door-to-door check-ups and detect non-communicable diseases that are also seen to cause sudden mortalities and impact the quality of life.
  • Around 1172 health sub-centers, 189 primary health centres, and 50 Community Health Centres across 50 universal health coverage blocks are covered under this scheme.
  • Through the scheme, hidden health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes will be screened, and monthly medicines will be provided at the doorstep.
  • Physiotherapy will be given to those that need care.
  • The scheme will also include the screening of kidney ailments and congenital defects in children and will be followed up through hospital treatment.

2. Nammai Kaakkum 48 Scheme 2021 (Emergency care scheme)

Beneficiaries: All road accident victims within the state who don’t have insurance including citizens of other states and countries.

Concerned District: All districts

Scheme Details :

  • Under ‘Nammai Kakkum 48’, Accident victims in Tamil Nadu will be given free emergency treatment for the first 48 hours at 609 empaneled government and private hospitals in the state.
  • Offers free 81 life-saving procedures worth Rs 1 lakh. It covers all procedures not included in the current state insurance scheme
  • It will be dovetailed with the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance scheme next year after the review.

Funding: Upto Rs 1 Lakh  

3. Athikadavu Avinashi Scheme 2021

Beneficiaries: All households in the state

Concerned Department: Water Resources Organisation

Concerned District: All districts

Scheme Details :

  • The main purpose of this scheme is to raise and recharge the ground water levels.
  • The scheme aims to ensure piped fresh drinking water supply to all households in the state.
  • A pipeline will be created for 1,058 Km and 6 pump houses would be constructed.

Funding:  Rs. 1,000 crore

4. Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department Scholarship

Beneficiaries: Students up to Class 12

Eligibility criteria: All Adi Dravidar/Tribal / Adi Dravidar converted to Christianity are eligible with no income limit

Concerned Department: Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department

Concerned District: All Districts

Scheme Details:

Free Education provided to students up to 12th Std. to all i.e. tuition fees will not be collected, and the amount will be reimbursed to institutes by the Government.

5. Farm Production System and Micro-Enterprises Scheme

Beneficiaries: Farmers

Concerned Department: Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department

Concerned District: All Districts

Scheme Details :

  • Demonstration for popularizing new crops/ varieties, and new technologies in Agriculture and allied sectors.
  • Diversification of production systems like Dryland Horticulture, Agro-Forestry, and Household production systems.
  • Adoption of proven technology, activities like INM, IPM, Fodder development, Organic farming, and Multiple cropping.
  • Improved intercropping seed village concept, Fisheries development in village ponds, farm ponds and tanks, Sericulture, back yard poultry, Livestock management, and other micro-enterprises, etc. are carried out under this component.

Funding : Farmers contribution @ 40% for General category and 20% for SC/ST. Contributions are collected and remitted to the watershed development fund maintained by the Watershed Associations.

Subsidy: 1560/- per Ha
