2.1 Cyclone Fani
Fani was the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the Indian state of Odisha since the 1999 Odisha cyclone. The second named storm and the first severe cyclonic storm of the 2019 North Indian Ocean cyclone season, Fani originated from a tropical depression that formed west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean on 26 April. Vertical wind shear at first hindered the storm’s development, but conditions became more favorable for Fani on 30 April.
Fani rapidly intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm and reached its peak intensity on 2 May with 1-minute sustained winds equivalent to a high-end Category 4 major hurricane. Fani weakened before making its landfall, and its convective structure rapidly degraded thereafter, degenerating into a remnant low on 4 May, and dissipating on the next day.
This is how the Fani cyclone was visible from the space when it originated on the coast. The eye had pressure as low as 932 mbar and the wind speed reached a peak of 250 km/hr.
2.2 Cyclone Bulbul
Bulbul was a strong and very damaging tropical cyclone that struck the Indian state of West Bengal as well as Bangladesh in November 2019, causing storm surge, heavy rains, and flash floods across the areas. After crossing the Indochinese Peninsula, Severe Tropical Storm Matmo’s remnants entered the Andaman Sea.
It began to organize over the southern Bay of Bengal at the beginning of November, then it slowly intensified into a cyclonic storm as it moved north. In addition, it is only the second to make it to hurricane strength, the first being in 1960
This is how the origin of the Bulbul cyclone was visible from the space that was captured by the satellites. The pressure of the center was low as 980 and the wind speed reached 145 km/hr when it made the landfall.
