The Union Government has decided to set up a National Centre of Excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics for creating a world-class talent pool in India to cater to the Indian as well as global industry. It will be set up in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Japan’s 13-year-old, Nishiya Momiji wins first ever women’s street skateboarding gold

The inaugural women’s street skateboarding event ended with a teen sweep. The gold and silver went to 13-year-olds Momiji Nishiya of Japan and Rayssa Leal of Brazil respectively, while 16-year-old Japanese Funa Nakayuma took bronze making the history of the youngest Olympic podium ever.

Government to officially recognise 236 academies across the country under Khelo India Scheme

The Centre has accredited a total of 236 academies across the country under Khelo India Scheme for the training of the Khelo India Athletes. Under this scheme, 360 Khelo India Centres and 24 Khelo India State Centres of Excellence have been notified. Under the State Level Khelo India Centre Scheme, the Ministry has decided to establish 1,000 Khelo India Centres across India

Flora Duffy triumphed at the triathlon in Tokyo, and that means Bermuda is officially the smallest country to ever celebrate a Summer Olympic gold medal. The 33-year-old triathlete blew away the 56-woman field with a time of 1:55:36 to earn gold in her fourth Olympic appearance.

GoI reduces import duty on lentils to zero to boost domestic supply

The Union Government has reduced the import duty on masoor dal to zero. It has also cut the Agriculture Infrastructure Development Cess on the lentil or masoor to 10 percent from 20 per cent. The move will boost domestic supply and check its price rise.

Kandla Sez or KASEZ is the First Green SEZ to achieve the IGBC Green Cities Platinum Rating for Existing Cities. The efforts of the KASEZ team were applauded, especially noting the fact that this was accomplished in the Bhuj region where water conservation and afforestation are critical interventions. This is part of celebrations marking India@75 - Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav.

Puri became the first city in the country to implement the Drink from Tap Project

Puri in Odisha became the first city in the country to implement the Drink from Tap project. It is now placed in the big league of global cities like London, New York and Singapore in providing potable water directly from the tap. The project will benefit about 2.5 lakh residents of Puri city in addition to about two crore tourists who visit the holy city every year.

GoI to set up Centre for Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development in Northeast

The Ministry of Science and Tech will set up a first-of-its-kind Centre of Excellence in the Northeast.The project for establishing the Centre for Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development was sanctioned by the Department of Biotechnology. It is the region’s first own Technology Resource Centres and the proposed Centre aims to address technological growth as its objective.

For the first time astronomers detect water vapour on Jupiter’s Moon Ganymede

Astronomers have discovered evidence of water vapor in the atmosphere of Jupiter's moon Ganymede for the first time. Ganymede, the largest moon in the Solar System, is covered in an icy crust. Scientists believe Ganymede may have a liquid ocean 100 miles (161 km) beneath its surface, and that such an ocean could host aquatic alien life.

12th Edition of Indo-Russia joint military Exercise INDRA 2021 will be held at Volgograd, Russia

The Exercise INDRA will be held at Volgograd, Russia from 01 to 13 August 2021. The exercise will entail conduct of counter terror operations under the United Nations mandate by a joint force against international terror groups. Exercise INDRA-21 will further strengthen mutual confidence and interoperability between the Indian & Russian Armies.

Indian Naval Ship Talwar is participating in Exercise Cutlass Express 2021, being conducted from 26 July 2021 to 06 August 2021 along the East Coast of Africa. The exercise is an annual maritime exercise conducted to promote national and regional maritime security in East Africa and the Western Indian Ocean.

India celebrates the 83rd Raising Day of CRPF on 27th July.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), observed its 83rd Raising Day on 27 July 2021. CRPF was first established as the Crown Representative’s Police on 27 July 1939, but after the Independence of India, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of the CRPF Act on 28 December 1949. Its headquarter is in New Delhi.
