Cabinet approves MoU between IIST and TU Delft Netherlands for research activities

The Union Cabinet has approved the MoU between Indian Institute of Space science and Technology and The Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands for carrying out the Academic programmes and Research activities. This will exchange students at undergraduate, postgraduate & doctoral level and will mutually discuss and decide the areas of studies to be pursued.

Cabinet approves continuation of 1,023 fast-track special courts for 2 years

The Union Cabinet approved continuation of 1,023 fast track special courts, including 389 exclusive POSCO courts, as a centrally sponsored scheme for another two years.

The scheme would continue from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023 with an outlay of Rs 1572.86 crore -- Rs 971.70 crore as central share and Rs 601.16 crore as state share.

The scheme was launched in Oct 2019.

Cabinet approves Samagra Shiksha Scheme 2.0

The Cabinet approved the school education programme Samagra Shiksha Scheme 2.0. The scheme runs from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026. It has been given a financial outlay of Rs 2.94 lakh crore for this period. The scheme covers 1.16 million schools, over 156 million students and 5.7 million teachers of government and aided schools from pre-primary to senior secondary level

First direct flight operations flagged-off on Imphal & Shillong route under UDAN scheme

The first direct flight operations between Imphal and Shillong was flagged off under the Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik, RCS-UDAN. This route fulfills the Centre’s objective to establish strong aerial connectivity in priority areas of North-East India.

Imphal is the capital of Manipur and Shillong is the capital of Meghalaya.

India and World Bank sign $250 million project to make existing dams safe and resilient

To enhance water security and support sustainable development, the GoI signed a $250 million loan agreement with the World Bank for the DRIP Phase II to make existing dams and communities safe and resilient across India. This is for 120 dams across Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu.

CBIC launches Compliance Information Portal (CIP)

The Central Board for Indirect Taxes & Customs launched the Indian Customs Compliance Information Portal at www.cip.icegate.gov.in/CIP for providing free access to information on all Customs procedures and regulatory compliance for nearly 12,000 Customs Tariff Items. The portal will provide complete knowledge of all import and export related requirements for all items

APEDA inks MoU with University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore for boosting agri-exports

To boost agricultural and processed food products exports especially from Karnataka, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) signed a MoU with University of Agricultural Science (UAS) Bangalore. The key areas of cooperation include developing technologies jointly with APEDA for advance alertness, efficient & precision farming.

Germany becomes 5th country to sign International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement

Germany became the 5th country to sign the International Solar Alliance Framework Agreement after amendments to it entered into force on 8th January this year, opening its Membership to all Member States of the United Nations. ISA is an alliance of over 124 nations that have been initiated by India. Its headquarters is located in Gurugram, New Delhi

RBI imposes fine over Rs 50 lakh on Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank for non-compliance

RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 50.35 lakh on Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank, Nashik for non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements.

The penalty on Janalaxmi Co-operative Bank has been imposed for non-compliance with directions issued by RBI on Placement of Deposits with Other Banks by Primary (Urban) Co-operative Banks and Membership of Credit Information Companies

IndusInd Bank gets empanelled as Agency Bank to RBI

IndusInd Bank has been empanelled by the RBI to act as an 'Agency Bank' to facilitate transactions related to government businesses.

The announcement comes after a recent RBI guideline that authorises scheduled private sector banks as agency banks of the regulator for the conduct of government business.

India win bronze medal in Tokyo, first Olympic medal in hockey since 1980

India men's hockey team defeated Germany to win the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.This is India's first Olympic medal in hockey since they won the gold medal in the 1980 Olympics in Moscow. This is India's fourth-medal in Tokyo so far.The captain of the team is Manpreet Singh, while the coach is Graham Reid. After 41 years Indian Hockey team won a medal in the Olympics

Tokyo Olympics: Boxer Lovlina Borgohain bags Bronze Medal in welterweight category

In Tokyo Olympic Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has bagged a Bronze Medal in welterweight 69 kilogram category. This is the third medal for the country. Earlier, PV Sindhu won a Bronze Medal in Badminton while Mira Bai Chanu lifted a Silver Medal in weightlifting. She is only the third Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal, after Vijendra Singh(2008) and Mary Kom(2012).

J&K: 8.5 Km Qazigund-Banihal tunnel open to traffic for trial

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the 8.5 kms long tunnel between Qazigund and Banihal has been opened for traffic on a trial basis. The tunnel will reduce travel time between Jammu and Srinagar by about one & half hours and 16 kilometres. Built at 5,800 feet above sea level, the Tunnel replaces Jawahar Tunnel and will provide all weather connectivity

BRO constructs highest motorable road in the world in Eastern Ladakh

Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has constructed and black-topped the highest motorable road in the world at 19,300 ft at Umlingla Pass in Eastern Ladakh, creating a record in high-altitude road construction. It has constructed a 52-km long tarmac road through Umlingla Pass, bettering the previous record of a road in Bolivia connecting to its volcano Uturuncu at 18,953 ft
