Sixth edition of NIRF Ranking 2021: IIT-Madras Best Institute for Third Time in a Row, IISc Top in Research

IIT Madras has created a history for becoming the best ranking Indian institute for the third time in a row. The institute has been an undefeated champion since 2019. IISc has continued to obtain the second rank. IISc used to be the best-ranking institute in 2018 and before. In the six years of NIRF, no other institute has got the top spot yet.

National Forest Martyrs Day is marked on September 11.

The day is observed to pay tributes to those who laid down their lives in order to protect the jungles, forests and wildfire.

The date of September 11 was chosen as on this date in 1730, the infamous Khejarli massacre took place. During this tragic incident, people started cutting Khejarli trees on the orders of the then king Maharaja Abhay Singh of Rajasthan.

IAF inducts Barak 8 air defence system that can hit multiple targets 70km away

The Indian Air Force inducted a medium range surface-to-air-missile (MRSAM) system capable of knocking out aerial threats such as enemy fighter jets, missiles, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles at a range of 70 km.India and Israel have jointly developed MRSAM or the Barak 8 air defence system.

The missile is powered by a locally-developed rocket motor and control.

India to commission INS Dhruv first long-range ballistic missile tracking ship

The INS Dhruv is a research vessel and missile range instrumentation ship built by India's Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL). The ship can gather electronic intelligence and will be used to track missiles and satellites to aid India's strategic weapons and anti-ballistic missiles. It will be jointly operated by National Technical Research Organization, DRDO.

Centre to give $3.5 bn in incentives under revised clean tech scheme for automakers

India will give about $3.5 billion in incentives to auto companies over a five-year period under a revised scheme to boost the manufacturing and export of clean technology vehicles.

The government's original plan was to give about $8 billion to automakers and part manufacturers to promote mainly gasoline technology, with added benefits for electric vehicles (EVs).

ICRISAT awarded 2021 Africa Food Prize

The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has been awarded the 2021 Africa Food Prize for work that has improved food security across 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

ICRISAT, a CGIAR Research Centre, is a non-profit, non-political public international research organisation that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia.

Author Susanna Clarke won the Women's Prize for Fiction 2021 for her novel ‘Piranesi’.Novelist and Booker-winner Bernardine Evaristo chaired the Women’s Prize judging panel this year. 'Piranesi' is narrated by a man living in a labyrinthine, statue-filled house — alone except for a visitor known as the Other — that comprises his whole universe.

US tech giant Adobe has announced the appointment of Prativa Mohapatra as vice president and managing director for Adobe India. Rajasthan’s Barmer gets emergency landing facility on Satta-Gandhav stretch

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated an Emergency Landing Field (ELF) and also witness aircraft operations on the ELF on NH-925 at Gandhav Bhakasar Section (NH-925) South of Barmer (Rajasthan).

This is the first time that a National Highway will be used for emergency landing of aircrafts of IAF.
