Prasar Bharati & Sansad TV ink MoU for uplink of ‘Sansad TV’ in HDTV format

The teleport facility of Sansad TV is presently capable of uplinking only one channel in SDTV. Prasar Bharati will also carry Sansad TV-SD in its DD Free Dish form. It has now been decided to merge Lok Sabah TV and Rajya Sabah TV channels and rechristen the merged entity as ‘Sansad TV’, which will be telecast in both HDTV and SDTV formats as Sansad TV-HD and Sansad TV-SD.

India's largest open air fernery developed in Uttarakhand

The fernery has been developed over four acres and houses various ‘threatened’ and rare species of ferns at Ranikhet in Uttarakhand's Almora district. The fernery has been developed by the research wing of Uttarakhand Forest Department over a period of three years under the Centre's compensatory afforestation scheme -CAMPA. It has a collection of 120 types of ferns.

Former Tamil Nadu captain Sridharan Sharath apppointed as BCCI junior selection committee chairman

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Junior National Selection Committee and has appointed Sridharan Sharath as its chairman.

Former Tamil Nadu captain Sridharan Sharath is the first cricketer to play 100 Ranji Trophy matches for Tamil Nadu. He also played over 100 List A games scoring more than 3000 runs. He has also been BCCI match referee.

Civil aviation ministry announces new MRO policy to attract investments

To attract more investments, the civil aviation ministry has announced a new policy for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services that includes leasing of land through open tenders and abolishing royalty charged by the AAI.

Besides, land allotment for entities setting up MRO facilities will be done for 30 years instead of the current short term period of 3 to 5 years.

Justice AIS Cheema to be reinstated as NCLAT acting chairman

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that former acting chairperson of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) Justice AIS Cheema will be reinstated and allowed to continue in office till September 20.

The newly appointed NCLAT chairperson Justice M Venugopal will be asked to go on leave until then, informed Attorney General KK Venugopal to the top court.

Nuakhai – The harvest festival of western Odisha celebrated widely.

Nuakhai is the harvest festival of Western Odisha. ‘Nua’ means new, and ‘Khai’ means to eat. The occasion marks the consumption of the first harvested crops and falls on the Bhadraba Shuklapakhya Panchami tithi, which is the day following Ganesh Chaturthi. It is the most important festival in the region.

Government widens scope of Transport and Marketing Assistance scheme, adds dairy products

Enhanced assistance under the revised scheme is expected to help Indian exporters of agricultural products to meet rising freight and logistics costs. Under the TMA, the government reimburses certain portion of freight charges and provides assistance for the marketing of agricultural produce. It was launched in 2019 to boost exports of such commodities to certain countries.

Pankaj Advani wins Asian Snooker Championship for second successive time

India’s Pankaj Advani successfully defended the Asian Snooker Championship at the Al Messila, a luxury collection resort & spa, in Doha, Qatar last week by outplaying Amir Sarkhosh of Iran for 6-3. The 36-year-old triumphed in 2019 and came runner up in 2017. Pankaj also became the only player to win the titles in all forms of billiards, snooker, 6Reds,10Reds competitions.
