Odisha govt joins hands with UNCDF for financial empowerment of women

The Odisha government and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) signed an agreement to announce the launch of Mission Shakti Living Lab to empower women economically and drive gender equality.

This will address barriers that limit the access of women to autonomy and financial freedom with the use of digital technologies and e-commerce.

Civil aviation ministry receives in-principle approval for setting up 21 greenfield airports across India

The civil aviation ministry has received ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up 21 greenfield airports across the country, the ministry informed the parliament.

Out of these 21 airports, eight airports have been operationalized.

154 Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) airports, including 14 water aerodromes and 36 helipads, have been identified for development/upgradation.

Karnataka joins hands with UNDP to impart 21st century digital skills and improve opportunities for youth

Karnataka's Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports has entered an LoU (Letter of Understanding) with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as part of the state-level initiative 'Code-Unnati', with an aim to improve access to entrepreneurship and employment opportunities among youth including women.

UNDP is the largest UN development aid agency.

United Arab Emirates becomes first country to transition to 4.5 day work week

UAE has announced to change its existing five-day workweek to a 4.5 day starting Jan 1, becoming world’s first country to make employee-friendly transition as part of its efforts to improve productivity and work-life balance.

According to new schedule, Monday to Thursday work timings would be from 7.30 am - 3.30 pm, followed by a half day on Friday from 7.30 am - 12.30 pm.

Defence ministry ropes in IITE Gandhinagar for training of 800 Sainik School teachers.

The Ministry of Defence has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Indian Institute of Teacher Education, Gandhinagar to facilitate training to teachers of Sainik Schools.

The MoU is for the period of 5 years commencing with effect from Jan 2022 under which 800 + teachers of all Sainik Schools will be trained through courses named ‘Gurudiksha’ & ‘Pratibaddhta'.

Wholesale inflation surges to 14.23% in November, highest in current series

Producers’ inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) reached an all-time high in the current series at 14.2 per cent in November. This is the eighth successive month of double digits WPI (mainly due to hardening of prices of mineral oils, basic metals, crude petroleum and natural gas).

Wholesale Price-based Index (WPI) inflation base year is 2011-12.

National Helpline 14566 launched to redress complaints of atrocities against SCs/STs

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has initiated a National Helpline Against Atrocities (NHAA).

The helpline is available round the clock on toll-free number '14566' across the country in Hindi, English and regional languages of different states/UTs.

It is also available as a web based self-service portal.

PolicyBazaar's holding firm PB Fintech to acquire MyLoanCare

PB Fintech, which operates Policybazaar has cleared a proposal to acquire up to 70.1% stake in Myloancare. The board also cleared a proposal to set up an new company to do the business of an account aggregator.

PB Fintech will initially acquire 24.9% stake in Myloancare after intimation to the RBI.

Subsequently, the company will increase its stake to 70.1%.

90% of rural India’s e-comm orders paid in cash: Study by CMS Infosystem

In 2020, nearly two-thirds of online sales were paid in cash, up from nearly half three years ago.

This is mainly because e-tailers expanded into the country’s rural areas (untapped customers), nearly 90% of the new buyers pay through the ‘cash on delivery’ (COD) mode, according to a study by CMS Infosystem, one of the largest cash handlers for banks in India.
