RBI approves appointment of R Gandhi as non-executive chairman of Yes Bank

The Reserve Bank has approved the appointment of its former deputy governor Rama Subramaniam Gandhi as non-executive part time chairman of Yes Bank for 3 years.

He also had a three-year secondment to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and also held the charge of Director of the Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), Hyderabad.

Gujarati film Chhello Show is India's official entry to Oscars 2023

The Film Federation of India has announced India's official entry to the Oscars 2023. The Gujarati film, Chhello Show, which is titled Last Film Show in English, has been selected as India's official entry to the 95th Academy Awards. It has been selected in the Best International Feature Film category.

The film is directed by Pan Nalin.

Mahindra & Mahindra to acquire Swaraj Engines' 17.41% stake from Kirloskar Industries

Mahindra & Mahindra(M&M) Ltd said it will acquire an additional 17.41 per cent stake in Swaraj Engines Ltd from Kirloskar Industries Ltd (KIL) for Rs 296 crore. The acquisition will result in increasing the company's stake in Swaraj Engines Ltd (SEL) to 52.13 per cent from 34.72 per cent.

SEL would be would become a subsidiary of M&M.

RBI removes Central Bank of India from PCA framework after more than 5 yrs

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) removed the Central Bank of India from the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) complying with parameters like net non-performing assets (net NPAs) and capital ratios.

RBI had placed Central Bank under PCA in June 2017 due to high net NPAs and negative return on assets. Central Bank was the last of the public sector lenders to come out of PCA.

Maharashtra's Daulatabad Fort to be renamed as 'Devgiri' Fort

The Maharashtra government will rename the Daulatabad fort located near Aurangabad city to its old name ‘Devgiri’, state Tourism Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has said.

The fort was renamed Daulatabad by Mohammed Tughlaq in the 14th Century who understood its importance as a base for military operations in southern India.

Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to retire its Srinagar-based Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 squadron 'Sword Arms' that Wing Commander (Wg Cdr) Abhinandan Varthaman was a part of when he had knocked down Pakistan-based F-16 combat aircraft a day after the February 2019 Balakot strike.

‘Sword Arms’ is one of its four remaining squadrons of ageing MiG-21 fighter jets.

Japan’s MUFG Bank injects ₹3,000 crore in India biz

Japan's MUFG Bank provided 30 billion rupees ($380 million) in additional capital to five branches in India on to meet growing demand for loans.

The infusion brings the total capital base of the MUFG branches to 52 billion rupees, excluding surplus capital. Indian regulations limit the amount banks can lend to a single borrower to 20% of their capital funds.
