IPS officer Rashmi Shukla appointed Director-General of Sashastra Seema Bal

Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rashmi Shukla has been appointed as the Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

SSB is the border-guarding force deployed along Nepal and Bhutan border.

Sashastra Seema Bal, Headquarters: New Delhi, Motto: Service, Security and Brotherhood.

SSB is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Craig Fulton named new coach for Indian hockey men’s team

Former South Africa international Craig Fulton was named as the new chief coach of the Indian men’s hockey team.

Craig Fulton replaces Graham Reid, who had resigned following India’s failure to reach the quarter-finals of the FIH hockey World Cup.

Fulton was the assistant coach of Belgium when they won the 2018 FIH Hockey World Cup and Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020.

Tata Steel Mining signs MoU with GAIL to get clean fuel

In order to reduce carbon footprint in its operations, Tata Steel Mining Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GAIL (India) Limited for supply of natural gas to its Ferro Alloys Plant at Athgarh in Odisha's Cuttack district.

GAIL will supply the agreed quantity of natural gas through its pipeline from Gujarat to Athgarh.

Natural gas emits 27 per cent less CO2 and has lower levels of other pollutants.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the Presidential elections in Nigeria

PM Narendra Modi congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu for winning the Presidential elections of Nigeria.

Ruling party candidate Bola Tinubu was declared the winner of Nigeria’s presidential election against Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

He received 36% of more than 24 million votes cast, according to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

Renowned Bengali litterateur Sasthipada Chattopadhyay dies at 82

Renowned Bengali novelist and short story writer Sasthipada Chattopadhyay passed away.

He was the creator of the famous ‘Pandav Goenda’ (five detectives) series.

He created two more detective series: ‘Detective Ambar Chatterjee’ and ‘Goenda Tatar'.

West Bengal government in 2017 honoured him with the ‘Bangla Akademi Award’ for his contribution to children’s literature.

Writer Vinod Kumar Shukla wins 2023 PEN/Nabokov Lifetime Achievement Award

Acclaimed Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla has won the 2023 PEN/Nabokov Award for achievement in international literature, PEN America – one of the most prestigious literary prizes worldwide.

The short story writer, poet and essayist, Shukla, who is considered one of the greatest contemporary writers in the Hindi language received the 59th Annual PEN Literary Awards.

Deakin University becomes first foreign varsity to set up its international branch campus at GIFT City

Australia-based Deakin University has become the first foreign university to receive approval of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to set up an International Branch Campus (IBC) in GIFT-IFSC, GIFT City, Gujarat.

By virtue of this approval, Deakin University will be able to offer the same degree courses it offers in Australia.

Scientists confirm existence of a fifth layer in Earth's core

By measuring the different speeds at which seismic waves created by large quakes penetrate and pass through the Earth's inner core, seismologists from the Australian National University (ANU) believe they have documented evidence of the fifth layer - a solid metallic ball that sits within the inner core.

The findings are published in the journal Nature Communications.

Amit Shah opens command centre under Safe City project in Bengaluru

Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Phase I of the Bengaluru Safe City project. The project is envisaged under Nirbhaya Scheme at a cost of over Rs 496 crore to ensure the safety of women in Bengaluru city.

Bengaluru police have installed about 6,300 fixed surveillance cameras under the project.
