World Telecommunication Day is celebrated on May 17 by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The day highlights the impact of the Internet and other communication tools on society. The ITU attempts to bridge the internet gap. The theme for 2023 is 'Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies'.

The first group of 10 start-up companies under the 50 start-ups exchange programme between India and Bangladesh returned to Dhaka. Food and grocery delivery company Zomato has rolled out its own unified payments interface (UPI) offering, called Zomato UPI, which it has launched in partnership with ICICI Bank. Zomato UPI is only a pilot of sorts and depending on the adoption rate and customer stickiness, the company will either approach more banks or go slow with the rollout.
The ministry of corporate affairs has notified changes to the Companies (Compromises, Arrangements and Amalgamations) Amendment Rules, 2023. The norms, which will be effective from June 15, aim to address the issue of bureaucratic delays in corporate restructuring by putting in place specific timelines.

The World Bank has approved a $ 82 million loan towards the adoption of global best practices for animal health management & to prevent, detect, & respond to endemic zoonotic diseases in India. The loan has a maturity of 11.5 years with a grace period of 4.5 years. It will strengthen India's One Health approach, which recognises people and animals are connected with nature.
The Reserve Bank of India told banks and other regulated entities to ensure a complete transition away from the London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) from July 1. The complete transition from LIBOR is a significant event in the global financial markets which requires continued attention from all stakeholders to mitigate operational risks and ensure an orderly transitions.
The Reserve Bank of India has imposed Rs 5 lakh penalty on Mizoram Rural Bank and Rs 2 lakh penalty on Tripura Gramin Bank release said. According to the release, the penalty was levied on both banks as it failed to categorize certain loan accounts as non-performing in line with the Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC) norms.
Mumbai ranks sixth among 46 cities globally in terms of annual price growth of high-end residential properties with appreciation of 5.5%, according to Knight Frank. Real estate consultant Knight Frank India in its report 'Prime Global Cities Index Q1 2023' said that Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi have registered an increase in average annual prices in January-March 2023.
The World Bank has approved a grant of Rs 51 crore to set up an integrated road safety enforcement system in Shimla and Nurpur police districts and develop the Palampur-Sheela chowk in Kangra as a 'safe corridor. For the first phase of the project, Shimla and Nurpur have been selected, and a sum of Rs 42 crore will be spent to strengthen their emergency response.
METRO and RRVL in December 2022 announced a deal for the acquisition of German firm's wholesale operations in India by billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led firm for ₹2,850 crore. German retailer METRO AG announced the completion of the sale of its Indian cash & Carry business to Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL), which holds the retail empire of Reliance Industries Ltd.
The government said that it has set up the Centre for Processing Accelerated Corporate Exit (C-PACE) to ensure timely and process-bound deregistering of companies from records as well as provide more meaningful data to the stakeholders. The centre has been set up by the corporate affairs ministry.
