Infosys's Sudha Murty appointed on key committee of NSTC by NCERT

Sudha Murty, the chairman of the Infosys Foundation, has been named as a member of a 19-member committee by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), will be focused on the development of textbooks and supplementary learning materials for the council’s initiatives.

RBI selects McKinsey and Company, Accenture Solutions to use AI, ML to improve regulatory supervision

The Reserve Bank of India has selected global consultancy firms McKinsey and Company India LLP and Accenture Solutions Pvt Ltd India to develop systems using artificial intelligence and machine learning for its supervisory functions.

On the data collection side, AI and ML technologies are used for real-time data reporting, effective data management and dissemination.

Retail inflation rises to 15-month high of 7.44 per cent in July

According to data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), India's retail inflation jumped to a 15-month high of 7.44% in July as prices of vegetables and other food items spiked.

This is a sharp acceleration from the 4.87% inflation reported in June. A year ago, retail inflation was at 6.71%.

Previously, high inflation was recorded at 7.79% in April 2022.

India, UAE settle 1 million barrels of crude oil transaction in national currencies

Exactly a month after India and UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding on having trade in national currencies, the UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) made their first ever crude oil transaction in national currencies.

The transaction involved the sale of one million barrels of oil.

Eminent scientist Padma Shri MRS Rao passes away in Bengaluru at 75

Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana Rao, popularly known as MRS Rao, an eminent Indian scientist and Padma Shri awardee, passed away in Bengaluru.

Born on January 21, 1948, in Mysuru, the 75-year-old scientist, was the first scientist to initiate Chromatin Biology research in India.

He was honoured with the Padma Sri award in 2010.

According to the ministry of home affairs, President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) has been awarded to 01 CRPF personnel, Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) has been awarded to 229, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPM) awarded to 82 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) has been awarded to 642.

President approves 76 gallantry awards for Armed Forces and CAPF Personnel on eve of Independence Day 2023

President Droupadi Murmu approved 76 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel on the eve of Independence Day 2023.

These include four Kirti Chakra (posthumous), 11 Shaurya Chakras, two Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (Gallantry), three Nao Sena Medal (Gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals(Gallantry).

WPI contracts 1.36 per cent in July, after deflating 4.12 per cent in June

India's wholesale inflation contracted 1.36% on a year-on-year basis in the month of July after contracting 4.12% in June, data showed on Monday. On a month-on-month basis, the index stood at 1.95%.

India's WPI reading has remained in the negative territory for four straight months.

June's WPI reading of 4.12% was the lowest since September 2015.

Anwarul Haq Kakar sworn in as Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister

Mr Kakar, the 52-year-old first-time Senator, is an ethnic Pushtun from Balochistan and a member of the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).

He was administered oath of the office by President Arif Alvi in a ceremony held at the Aiwan-i-Sadr (the President House) in Islamabad. He became the 8th interim prime minister of Pakistan.

Centre appoints R Doraiswamy as LIC Managing Director

Centre has appointed R Doraiswamy, Executive Director, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) as Managing Director of the insurance behemoth from September 1,2023 to August 31,2026.

Doraiswamy will replace Ipe Mini, who is due to superannuate at the end of this month.

Currently, LIC has four Managing Directors — Mini Ipe, M Jagannath, Tablesh Pandey, and Sat Pal Bhanoo.

Jannik Sinner beat Australian Alex De Minaur 6-4 6-1 at the National Bank Open in Toronto to clinch his first Masters 1000 title after finishing runner-up in two editions of the Miami Open in 2021 and 2023.

Sinner has become the second Italian player in history to win a Masters 1000 title following Fabio Fognini’s triumph in Monte-Carlo in 2019.
