UNESCO awards Rambagh Gate & Ramparts project highest honor, Award of Excellence for inclusivity & access to broader community

UNESCO has awarded the resilient urban revitalisation of Rambagh Gate and Ramparts in Punjab, as well as the heritage conservation projects related to Haryana's Church of Epiphany and Delhi's Bikaner House.

The Rambagh Gate and Ramparts project received the highest honor, the 'Award of Excellence,' for its inclusivity and access to the broader community.

Sanjay Singh elected new president of Wrestling Federation of India

Sanjay Singh has been elected the new president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Sanjay Singh is the vice president of the Uttar Pradesh Wrestling Association and previously served on the WFI's executive council.

He has also been the national federation's joint secretary since 2019.

He will take over the reins of the WFI chief from Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

Parliament passes 'Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023'

The Lok Sabha passed the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, repealing the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867. The Bill has already been passed by Rajya Sabha in the Monsoon Session.

It will make the registration of periodicals simple and simultaneous, through an online system without the requirement of any physical interface.

The Parliament has passed the 'Telecommunications Bill, 2023' with the approval of Rajya Sabha with amendments.

The Bill has already been passed by Lok Sabha.

It has been brought to transform and reform telecom sector, services, and its networks.

The Bill seeks to amend and consolidate the law relating to the development, expansion, and operation of telecom services.

Government has planned to open 17 thousand creches all around the country and urged states and districts officials to identify groups of women construction workers and women farm labourers who can take advantage of the initiative.

Central Railway launches safety 'panic button' feature for women passengers

With a view to strengthen security of women passengers in trains, Central Railway (CR) has introduced 'panic button' system to alert officials in case of an emergency.

The security feature - Red push button - installed inside each of the four ladies coach of a local train was launched last week on a trial basis.

UNESCO: Bengaluru Airport’s T2 named among ‘world’s most beautiful airports’

UNESCO's Prix Versailles 2023, Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminal 2(T2) managed to stand out, and has been recognized as one of the 'world's most beautiful airports.'

The world judges panel,chaired by renowned fashion designer Elie Saab, bestowed this honour, and honoured T2 with the recognition, making it the sole airport in India to receive this.

FIH Hockey Star Awards 2023: India's Hardik Singh, Savita Punia Land Top Honours

Indian men's hockey team midfielder Hardik Singh and women's side captain Savita Punia won the FIH Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year (women) awards respectively.

This is Hardik's second big award this year as he was also conferred the Hockey India Balbir Singh Sr Award for Player of the Year 2022.

Poet Sukrita Paul Kumar bags Tagore Literary Prize

The sixth edition of the Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize was awarded to poet-critic Sukrita Paul Kumar for her book, 'Salt & Pepper: Selected Poems'. An amount of USD 5,000, a Tagore statue and a certificate for contribution to literature was given to Kumar.

The Rabindranath Tagore Literary Prize for social achievement was awarded to Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee.

Govt inks ₹1614-crore pact with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders for 6 offshore patrol vessels

Ministry of Defence (MoD)signed a contract with Mumbai-based state-owned Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) for procurement of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVS) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) valued at ₹1614.89 crore.

These multi-role state-of-the-art vessels will be indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by the MDL.

Kuwait’s new emir Sheikh Mishal takes oath of office

Kuwait’s new emir, Sheikh Mishal al-Ahmad al-Sabah, has been formally sworn in before parliament to begin his rule.

The new emir, took over after the passing of his half-brother, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah.

The 83-year-old Sheikh Mishal is Kuwait’s third ruler in just over three years.

Mohini Giri, an icon of women’s rights movement, dies at 86

Renowned women’s rights activist Dr V Mohini Giri died following a brief illness.

Dr Giri was the former Chair of the National Commission for Women (NCW) (1995–1998) and of the Central Social Welfare Board.

She was also the Chairperson of the Guild of Service, a New Delhi–based social service organisation.

She founded the War Widows Association in 1972.

National Mathematics Day 2023 - 22 December

National Mathematics Day is celebrated on 22 December every year. This day has been observed since 2012. The then Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh paid tribute to the birth anniversary of Ramanujan as National Mathematics Day.

Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887, in Erode, Tamil Nadu, India.
