NIC launches new data centre in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar becomes the fourth National data centre (NDC) of National Informatics Centre (NIC) after Delhi, Hyderabad, and Pune.

The new cloud-enabled NDC aims to offer round-the-clock operations with secure hosting for various e-governance applications of Central and State Governments and has ability to support 35,000 virtual servers.

NIC provides technology support to all governance services and hosts nearly 10,000 websites of the Government.

NIC was established in 1976.

NIC is a part of the Indian Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology's Department of Electronics & Information Technology and is headquartered in New Delhi.

BEL to make satellites for ISRO

Bharat Electronics Ltd., recently chosen by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to make its future satellites.

The core business of the Rs. 10,000-crore company includes Akash missiles for the Armed Forces, radars, military communication, and signal equipment, besides electronic voting machines Alpha, along with five companies, has already worked on two of ISRO navigation satellites (IRNSS-1H and 1I).

Ranbir Singh is Northern Army Commander

Lt Gen Ranbir Singh has been appointed Northern Army commander.

Lt Gen Ranbir Singh was the Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) when India carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lt Gen Singh succeeds Lt Gen Devraj Anbu who will take charge as Vice Chief of the Indian Army.

India, Indonesia elevate ties

India and Indonesia elevated their bilateral ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The two countries signed 15 agreements, including one to boost defence cooperation, and called for freedom of navigation in the strategic Indo-Pacific region.

Moody’s cuts 2018 growth forecast to 7.3%

Moody’s Investors Service cut India’s 2018 growth forecast to 7.3% from the previous estimate of 7.5%.

The economy is in cyclical recovery, but higher oil prices and tighter financial conditions will weigh on the pace of acceleration.

Moody’s maintained its 2019 growth forecast at 7.5%.

SBI hikes deposit rates by 5-15 bps

The country’s largest lender, SBI has raised retail fixed deposit rates by 5 to 15 basis points on two maturities.

Deposit rates (less than Rs. 1 crore) from one year to less than two years have been raised by 15 bps to 6.65%, while those for two years to less than three years have been increased by 5 bps to 6.65%.

India signs Loan Agreement with the World Bank for Rajasthan Project

An Agreement for IBRD Credit of USD 21.7 Million from World Bank for the Strengthening of Public Financial Management in Rajasthan Project was signed.

It is USD 31 million project of which USD 21.7 million will be financed by the World Bank, and the remaining amount will be funded out of the State Budget.

The project objective is to contribute to improved Budget execution, enhanced accountability and greater efficiency in Revenue Administration in Rajasthan.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) recognise Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) as the world's first fully solar energy-powered airport.
