World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year.

World Blood Donor Day is to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion and of the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.

The day also provides an opportunity to call to action to governments and national health authorities to provide adequate resources.

Rajasthan govt announces one-time Covid relief of Rs 5,000 for financially weak artists

The Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government has decided to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to artists reeling under financial troubles due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

Around 2,000 financially weak artists will receive the financial aid.

The Rajasthan government had made an allocation of Rs 15 crore in this year’s state budget for artist welfare.

Indian mango promotion programme begins in Bahrain

A week-long Indian mango promotion programme began in Bahrain. Where 16 varieties of the fruit including three Geographical Indications (GI) certified Khirsapati&Lakshmanbhog (West Bengal), Zardalu (Bihar) are being displayed.

The mangoes were sourced from farmers in Bengal and Bihar by APEDA registered exporter. It recently organised mango festival in Berlin, Germany.

IIT Kharagpur researchers say their technique can detect cyclones much in advance

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research in China have developed a technique that can detect the forming of cyclone in the North Indian Ocean region much in advance.Before they are picked up by the weather satellites orbiting the Earth. It detects a possible cyclone from the time the eddy is formed.

Maharashtra Cabinet nod to proposed amendments for protection of ‘heritage’ trees

An amendment to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975 to bring in the concept of “heritage trees” was approved in a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet recently.

The Cabinet also green-lighted the formation of the Maharashtra Tree Authority,which will take all decisions regarding protection of trees.

French Open 2021: Krejcikova adds women's doubles to singles title with Siniakova

Czech Barbora Krejcikova completed a singles-doubles title sweep at the French Open 2021, when she lifted the women's doubles trophy with compatriot Katerina Siniakova, beating Iga Swiatek and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
