India-Bhutan hydropower project bags prestigious Brunel Medal

The 720 MW Mangdechhu hydroelectric project, an India-Bhutan venture, has been awarded the prestigious Brunel Medal for excellence in civil engineering by the UK-based Institute of Civil Engineers. This was jointly inaugurated by the PM of the two countries in August 2019. The GoI has constructed four hydropower projects in Bhutan and Three more are under construction.

Director General of Indian Coast Guard K Natarajan was elected as the next executive director of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP). The ReCAAP Agreement was launched in November 2006 with 14 Asian Contracting Parties, including North, Southeast, and South Asian countries.

Ladakh launches ‘Pani Maah’ to raise awareness about clean water; awards for ‘Har Ghar Jal’ villages too

‘Pani Maah’ or water month has been launched in Ladakh to inform villagers about the importance of clean water. The Ladakh govt has announced a reward of Rs 2.5 million for the first block in each district that achieves the status of ‘Har Ghar Jal’. The campaign will adopt a three-pronged approach, focussing on water quality testing, planning and strategizing water supply.

RBI imposes Rs 6 lakh penalty on Hewlett-Packard Financial Services

RBI has imposed a penalty of Rs 6 lakh on Hewlett-Packard Financial Services (India) Private Ltd, Bengaluru for non-compliance with certain directions issued by it.

RBI said the statutory inspection of the company revealed non-compliance with the statutory directions on submission of credit information to CRILC and submission of credit data to credit information companies
