International Day of Epidemic Preparedness 2021: December 27

In a bid to prepare for future outbreaks & sensitise people about epidemics on all levels, the United Nations & World Health Organization marked December 27 as the International day for Epidemic Preparedness.

The day was first observed in 2020.

UNGA had emphasised on the need to advocate the importance of the preparedness for, prevention of & partnership against epidemics.

Paytm Payments Bank, MoneyGram partner to offer international remittance directly to Paytm Wallet

Paytm Payments Bank, an associate entity of Paytm, and Nasdaq-listed MoneyGram, a global leader in digital P2P payments, have entered into a partnership to enable MoneyGram customers globally to send money in real-time to a Paytm Wallet user in India.

This is MoneyGram’s first mobile wallet partnership in India.

BoB subsidiary and India Navy launch co-branded credit card

BOB Financial Solutions Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bank of Baroda, and Indian Navy have launched a co-branded credit card for navy personnel. The credit card will be equipped with contactless features and will be offered on the RuPay platform.

A navy personnel up to the age of 64 years will be eligible to choose from three variants of the co-branded credit card.

Former India goalkeeper Sanath Sett dies at 91

Former India goalkeeper Sanath Sett, who was part of the 1954 Asian Games squad, died after prolonged illness.

Known for his acrobatic saves under the bar, Seth began his journey at the Eastern Railway FC in 1949 before moving to Aryan Club in 1951.

He then moved to East Bengal in 1957 and the next year he joined their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan, where he played for six years.

Aanchal Thakur becomes first Indian to win two international skiing medals with bronze at Montenegro

Indian skier Anchal Thakur won her second international medal in alpine skiing at the FIS Alpine Ski Competition in Kolasin in Montenegro, keeping alive her hopes of qualifying for the next year's Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Aanchal won third place in the giant slalom section of the FIS Alpine Ski Competition.

SEBI inducts Aarati Krishnan as a member of MF advisory panel

Aarati Krishnan, Editorial Consultant with BusinessLine, has been inducted as a member of the Securities & Exchange Board of India’s Advisory Committee on Mutual Funds.

The committee, chaired by Usha Thorat, former Deputy Governor of RBI, advises SEBI on matters related to mutual fund regulation to ensure investor protection, development of the industry.

Indian-origin judge Narandran 'Jody' Kollapen appointed to South Africa's highest judicial bench

Narandran 'Jody' Kollapen, who is Indian origin, has been appointed to South Africa's highest judicial bench, the Constitutional Court.

The appointment of 64-year-old Kollapen &Rammaka Steven Mathopo as the latest additions to the Constitutional Court after a lengthy process of public interviews. Both will take office from January 1, 2022.

Amit Shah Launches Good Governance Index 2021; Gujarat Tops, UP Shows 'Incremental Growth'

Gujarat has topped the composite ranking in the Good Governance Index (GGI), followed by Maharashtra and Goa while Uttar Pradesh showed an incremental growth of 8.9 per cent in the indicators launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the occasion of the Good Governance Day.

As many as 20 states have improved their composite GGI scores in 2021.

Former England Test Captain Ray Illingworth Dies At 89

Former England captain Ray Illingworth has died at the age of 89, his county, Yorkshire.

He had been undergoing radiotherapy for oesophageal cancer.

Illingworth played 61 Tests for England between 1958 and 1973 and captained the country 31 times, winning 12 matches and an Ashes series in Australia in 1970-1.
