The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands defines wetlands as "areas of marsh, fen, peat land or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six meters".

Government managed CSC e-Governance Services India has announced its partnership with the International Organization for Migration-United Nations’ India Mission to establish Migrant Resource Centres (MRC) in Tamil Nadu. The government agency, CSC e-Governance Services, has signed a MoU in this regard.

Piyush Goyal appointed NATGRID CEO by the Union government

Piyush Goyal, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre, has been appointed as the new NATGRID CEO by the Union government as it issued an order on Wednesday for posting 26 other officers to the rank of additional secretary.

Goyal is currently serving as an additional secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.

DoT invites participation in demand study for 5G private networks

Department of Telecom plans to undertake demand studies for directly giving 5G spectrum to enterprises willing to set up Captive Non-Public Networks (CNPN). Enterprises with a net worth of more than 100 crores are invited to participate in this exercise. Qualified and keen enterprises are required to submit the details such as ownership, net worth, proposed locations etc.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of stake in IIFL Home indirectly by ADIA Group. Platinum Owl is a restricted scope company (private limited company), incorporated in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM). Platinum Owl is acting in its capacity as trustee for Platinum Jasmine Trust, which was established under the laws of the ADGM.

CCI approves proposed combination involving amalgamation of HDFC Limited, HDFC Bank, HDFC Investments and HDFC Holdings

The proposed combination envisages a two-step amalgamation process:

Step 1: Amalgamation of HDFC Investments and HDFC Holdings into and with HDFC Limited, such that HDFC Limited will be the surviving entity post this step; and

Step 2: Amalgamation of the amalgamated HDFC Limited into HDFC Bank, such that HDFC Bank will be the surviving entity post this step.

Indo-Oman Joint Military Exercise Al Najaf IV concludes

The Indo Oman Joint Military Exercise Al Najaf IV concluded at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges. This platoon level 13 days exercise had commenced on 01 August 2022.

The aim of the exercise was to achieve inter-operability and to acquaint each other with operational procedures and combat drills in a Counter Terrorism environment under United Nations mandate.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh unveils India’s first Saline Water Lantern

Dr Jitendra Singh has launched India’s first Saline Water Lantern which uses the sea water as the electrolyte between specially designed electrodes to power the LED lamps.

He unveiled the first-of-its kind lantern named “Roshni” during a visit to SAGAR ANVESHIKA, a Coastal Research Vessel, operated and used by the NIOT, Chennai for coastal research.

Centre notifies India’s 31st Elephant Reserve In Tamil Nadu on World Elephant Day

Agasthyamalai Elephant Reserve has been notified as India’s 31st Elephant Reserve by the Union environment ministry. This is the fifth elephant reserve in Tamil Nadu. The Periyar-Agasthyamalai landscape is estimated to have 1,800 Asian elephants (Census 2010).

IAF contingent arrives in Malaysia to participate in bilateral exercise 'Udarashakti'

Indian Air Force and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) are set to participate in a bilateral exercise named 'Udarashakti.' This is the first bilateral exercise being conducted between the two countries. Notably, the Indian Air Force is participating in the air exercise with Su-30 MKI and C-17 aircraft while the RMAF will be flying Su-30 MKM aircraft.

New Work From Home Guidelines For SEZ (Special Zone) Units By Commerce Ministry

Units in a special economic zone that want to permit work-from-home for employees will have to formulate a scheme and take approval from development commissioners concerned.

In July, the government allowed WFH for a maximum period of one year in a special economic zone (SEZ) unit. The facility can be extended to 50 per cent of total employees.
