Names of 11 scientists declared for India’s highest science award, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize

The names of 11 scientists, who received the country’s highest science award Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for science and technology 2021, were announced during the 80th foundation day of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The prize is given to Indian scientists below the age of 45 for outstanding research in seven fields.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam collects an unprecedented third silver medal at the World archery championships

Jyothi, who earlier helped India bag silver medals in compound women’s team and mixed team events, took another silver going down fighting in the women’s individual final to top-ranked Colombian Sara Lopez 146-144. This was the Indian’s sixth medal from the event.

Jyothi had won bronze medals in individual and women’s team events in 2019 and a team silver in 2017.

Sania Mirza & Zhang Shuai Win Ostrava Open WTA Doubles Title

India's Sania Mirza and her Chinese partner Zhang Shuai won the women's doubles title in the women's doubles final at the Ostrava Open in Ostrava, Czech Republic, beating Kaitlyn Christian and Erin Routliffe in straight sets.

It was Sania's second final of the season, following a runner-up finish at the WTA 250 Cleveland event in the US last month with Chirstina Mchale.

Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai heads panel on rationalisation GST rates

Setting the stage for an overhaul of the multiple tax rates under the Goods and Services Tax regime, the government has tasked a group of ministers (GoM) led by Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S. Bommai with proposing a rationalisation of tax rates and considering the merger of different tax slabs within two months.

Centre & state to set-up Weavers Services, design centre at Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

The central government has decided to set-up a weaver Services and Design Resource Centre at Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, which will be one of its own kind hub to promote and facilitate the continuous growth of the local handloom projects to compete in the global market.

Crypto Industry Could Add $184B of Economic Value to India by 2030: NASSCOM

The “CryptoTech” industry – companies involved in trading, payments, remittances, retail and more – is expected to reach a size of $241 million in India by 2030, and $2.3 billion globally by 2026.

The report, entitled “Crypto Industry in India,” was published by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) in conjunction with WazirX.

The cyclone crossed the coasts between Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Gopalpur and weakened into a deep depression overnight. Cyclone Gulab is the 2nd to hit Odisha in 4 months after Cyclone Yaas in May.

LIC IPO : Govt shortlists Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas as legal advisor

The government has shortlisted Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas for giving legal advice on upcoming mega IPO (Initial Public offerings) of India's largest insurance company LIC.

The government aims to come out with the IPO and subsequent listing of Life Insurance Corporation on the bourses in the January-March quarter of 2022.

Guinness World Records: Japanese sisters certified world's oldest twins

Guinness World Records Sisters Umeno Sumiyama and Koume Kodama turned 107 years and 300 days old, officially breaking the record for the world’s oldest living identical twins.

The Japanese siblings are also the oldest identical twins to have ever lived.

Sumiyama and Kodama were born on Shodoshima island in western Japan on November 5, 1913.
