US duo David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian win 2021 Nobel Prize in medicine

The Nobel Prize in the field of physiology or medicine has been awarded to the US. scientists David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian.They were cited for their discovery of receptors for temperature and touch.

The prizes, for achievements in science, literature, and peace, were created and funded in the will of Swedish dynamite inventor and businessman Alfred Nobel.

Delhi Metro To Build First Ever Integrated Flyover Cum Metro Viaduct Structure Where Flyover And Metro Viaduct Will Run Parallel

For the first time in the history of Delhi Metro, an Integrated ‘flyover cum Metro viaduct structure’ along with a vehicle underpass is being built near Soorghat on the Majlis Park – Maujpur corridor of Phase – IV in north-east Delhi, in association with PWD.

This 12.098 kilometers long corridor is comprising of eight stations and is completely elevated.

SBI launches NAV-eCash card in collaboration with Indian navy

State Bank of India (SBI) announced the launch of SBI’s NAV-eCash card on INS Vikramaditya, the largest naval aircraft carrier of India.

The new journey envisioned for the card is set to change the payment ecosystem, while the ship is sailing with no dependency on utilisation of any form of cash to avail any of the service on board.

The new NAV-eCash card will facilitate both online and offline transactions.

Rajneesh Sharma has been appointed as the administrator of NBFCs--Srei Infrastructure Finance Limited & Srei Equipment Finance Limited.

RBI also intends to shortly initiate the process of resolution of the two NBFCs under the Insolvency & Bankruptcy (Insolvency & Liquidation Proceedings of Financial Service Providers and Application to Adjudicating Authority) Rules, 2019.

Seychelles’ Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB) programme launched in partnership with India

Tax Inspectors Without Borders (TIWB), a joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), launched its programme in Seychelles on 4th October 2021.

India was chosen as the Partner Administration and has provided a Tax Expert for this programme.

Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare launches i-Drone, ICMR’s drone-based vaccine delivery model

This is for the first time that a "Make in India" drone has been used in South Asia to transport COVID vaccine over an aerial distance of 15 kms in 12-15 mins from the Bishnupur district hospital to Loktak lake, Karang island in Manipur for administration at the PHC.

The actual road distance between these locations is 26 k.m.

Shakti Sinha, former bureaucrat and private secretary to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, passes away

Shakti Sinha, former bureaucrat, and academician who was private secretary to late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, passed away. He was 64.

Sinha, an IAS officer of the 1979 batch, was also former Director of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML).

Professor Eric Hanushek and Dr. Rukmini Banerji awarded the 2021 Yidan Prize- the world’s highest education accolade

Out of 130 nominated countries, Dr. Rukmini Banerji, Pratham’s CEO has been awarded the 2021 Yidan Prize for Education Development for improving learning outcomes in schools at scale.

The Yidan Prize was founded by Charles Chen Yidan in 2016 to create a better world through education. Yidan Prize Laureate receives a gold medal and a sum of $3.9 million.

Haier's Eric Braganza appointed as CEAMA president

The Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA) said that Eric Braganza has been appointed as its president for a two-year term.

He succeeds Godrej Appliances Business Head and Executive Vice-President Kamal Nandi for the CEAMA chair.

Established in 1978, CEAMA represents the consumer electronics and home appliances industry.

Amish Mehta will take over as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CRISIL. Mehta’s appointment will be effective from October 1, 2021. The veteran will take over from Ashu Suyash.

The Alibaug white onion was given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag bringing worldwide recognition to its unique sweet taste, no-tears factor, as well as its medicinal properties.

The soil of Alibaug taluka has low sulphur content. The NABL-approved lab test report mentions low pungency, sweet taste, ‘no tear’ factor, low pyruvic acid, high protein, fat & fibre, etc.

Indian Banks' Association moves RBI seeking licence to set up Rs 6,000-cr bad bank

The Indian Banks' Association (IBA) has moved an application to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) seeking licence to set up a Rs 6,000-crore National Asset Reconstruction Company Ltd (NARCL) or bad bank.

RBI has its process and procedure for granting licence for such business, sources said, adding, it could take next few weeks to obtain licence from the regulator.
