Nobel Prize 2021 in Economics awarded to David Card, Joshua Angrist and Guido Imbens

Three US-based economists won the 2021 Nobel prize for economics for pioneering research on the labour market impacts of minimum wage, immigration and education, and for creating the scientific framework to allow conclusions to be drawn from such studies that can’t use traditional methodology.

Banks get RBI nod to use any other ARR in place of LIBOR

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has permitted banks, which are authorized to deal in foreign exchange, to use any other widely accepted/alternative reference rate (ARR) in place of the London interbank offered rate (LIBOR) for interest payable in respect of export/import transactions.

LIBOR- the global reference rate for unsecured short-term borrowing in the interbank market.

Bharat Bill Pay starts its mobile prepaid recharges services, onboards BSNL

Bharat Bill Payment System, the one-stop platform for facilitating all recurring payments across various categories has gone live with the ‘mobile prepaid recharges category’. Bharat Bill Payment System has on-boarded Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) as the first Telecom Operator and the category is now live on BHIM UPI App.

Sarita Mor wins bronze at World Wrestling Championships

Sarita Mor defeated Sweden's Johanna Lindborg 8-2 to bag the bronze medal in the 59kg category at the World Wrestling Championships.

She becomes the sixth Indian woman wrestler to win a bronze medal at the World Championships.

It was India's second medal of this edition of the World Championships as Anshu Malik won silver in the 57kg category.

India announces $200 million line of credit for Kyrgyzstan

India announced a $200-million line of credit for Kyrgyzstan and signed an agreement to carry out small but high impact projects for community development in the Central Asian state.

The two initiatives were among several measures announced by external affairs minister S Jaishankar at the end of a two-day visit to Kyrgyzstan.
