The day is observed annually on November 6 in order to raise awareness about the damage caused to the environment due to wars.

United Nations General Assembly declared November 6 as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict on November 5, 2001.

Haryana: Chief Minister Manohar Lal launched Uttam Seed Portal

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has launched the Uttam Seed Portal in Chandigarh. With this, much better quality seeds will be made available to the farmers. Government agencies and private seed producers would also be involved in this.

Its objective is to provide quality seeds to the farmers in a transparent manner, which will increase their yield and income.

Telecom department sets up 6G technology innovation group

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has formed a technology innovation group on sixth generation or 6G even though the 5G is yet to take off with spectrum auction for commercial deployments likely next fiscal year.

With telecom secretary K Rajaraman heading the initiative as a chairperson.

6G (sixth-generation wireless) is the successor to 5G cellular technology.

Panel to study edible oil pricing, sugarcane arrears

The Standing Committee of Parliament on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, headed by Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay, has decided to look into the increasing prices of edible oils. It will study the price regulatory mechanisms and edible oil availability in the market.

It will also examine the issue of “payment of sugarcane arrears to to farmers”

Puneeth Rajkumar honoured posthumously with Basavashree Award 2021

Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar will be posthumously conferred the Basavashree award 2021 by the Bruhanmutt.

The award honours people for services to society in their respective fields by following the principles of Lord Basaveshwar.

It is presented by Chitradurga Bruhanmutt since 1997.

The award includes a Rs 5 lakh cash and a memento.

Tata Steel BSL first company to export LD slag to Bangladesh for cement making

Tata Steel BSL has exported 9,000 tonnes of LD slag, a by-product of manufacturing the metal, to Bangladesh, in the first such shipment from India to the neighbouring country.

It shipped out the product through Dhamra Port to the Bangladesh market from its unit in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.

LD (Linz-Donawitz) slag is produced during the steel-making process.

NCLT approves GAIL buying IL&FS's 26% stake in OTPC

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved state-owned gas utility GAIL (India) Ltd's acquisition of bankrupt Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services' 26 per cent stake in ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC).

ONGC holds 50 per cent interest in the company in the project that supplies electricity to the northeastern states.

China successfully launched a Guangmu Earth-science satellite via a Long March-6 carrier rocket from Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center.

Guangmu is the world's first Earth-science satellite dedicated to serving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda upon the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the UN.

As per The Verge, the American tech giant will officially launch the 'edge' supported browser fully on Linux with regular stable channel updates.

The preview versions of 'edge' for Linux have been available for more than a year.

SHIB and DOGE record the highest trading volume on Indian exchanges

Meme cryptocurrencies Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB) have emerged as India’s most-traded digital assets on the country’s crypto exchanges.

On CoinSwitch Kuber exchange, between April and October 2021, Dogecoin accounted for 13.76% of the platform’s total trading volume, followed by Ethereum’s 6.06%, while Bitcoin ranked third at 6.04%.

IndiGo partners with Kotak Mahindra Bank to launch Ka-ching credit card

Kotak Mahindra Bank (KMBL) and IndiGo airlines announced that they have partnered to launch a co-branded credit card called Ka-ching under IndiGo’s 6E rewards programme. The credit card will be launched in November 2021 and provide exclusive travel benefits to members.

Available in two variants - 6E Rewards, and 6E Rewards XL.

India appoints Sanjay Bhattacharyya as its next ambassador to Switzerland

India has appointed Sanjay Bhattacharyya as its next Ambassador to Switzerland, the Ministry of External Affairs.

Currently, Bhattacharyya is serving as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Bhattacharyya an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1987 batch is expected to take up the assignment shortly.

Earlier, he had also served as India's Ambassador to Turkey.
