World Bank approves project to promote rain-fed farming in Uttarakhand

The World Bank has approved a project worth ₹1,000 crore for taking rain-fed farming to new heights in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand.

The project named Uttarakhand Climate Responsive Rain-fed Farming Project will be implemented by the watershed department.

The project is aimed at reducing green house gas emissions for funding by the World Bank.

GE Steam Power inks USD 165 mn pact to supply 3 nuclear steam turbines to BHEL

GE Steam Power has signed a USD 165 million contract with BHEL for the supply of three nuclear steam turbines out of six units for NPCIL's domestic nuclear program- phase 1 being developed at Gorakhpur, Haryana (units - 1 to 4 (GHAVP)) and Kaiga (Kaiga-5&6) Karnataka.

Today, GE's steam turbine technology operates in 50 per cent of the world's nuclear power plants.

Karnataka's Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai opened Swedish furniture and home furnishing retailer Ikea's large outlet at Nagasandra on the Pune expressway.

The Ikea store in Bengaluru is 500,000 sq.ft in area and the company hopes to attract about seven million visitors a year. It has employed about 1000 direct workers.

Mongolia’s Khuvsgul Lake National Park has been added to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO.

Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northern Mongolian province of Khuvsgul near the Russian border, holding nearly 70 per cent of Mongolia’s fresh water, or 0.4 per cent of the world’s total.

38th edition of India–Indonesia Coordinated Patrol

The navies of India and Indonesia on June 13 began an 11-day coordinated patrol in Andaman Sea and Malacca Strait.

The 38th edition of the exercise IND-INDO CORPAT, conducted for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place till June 24.

The two navies have been carrying out CORPAT along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2002.

Asian Games Double Gold Medallist And Olympian Hari Chand Dies Aged 69

Long-distance runner Hari Chand, who won two gold medals at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games, passed away at his native village Ghorewaha in Hoshiarpur district,Punjab.

He won a gold medal at the 1975 Asian Championship in 10,000 metre and a bronze medal in 5,000 metre.

Later, he won two gold medals at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok in the 5000m and 10,000m events

Indian Navy inks pact with DG Shipping for transition of Indian navy personnel into merchant navy

MoU has been signed between Indian Navy & Directorate General of Shipping to facilitate transition of Indian Navy personnel into the merchant navy.

Under the provisions of the pact, the DG Shipping has envisioned certification of Indian Navy personnel in accordance with the International STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) conventions.

Assam has become the 36th State to implement the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) scheme.

With this, the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all 36 states, and Union Territories, making food security portable throughout the country.

ONORC is a scheme that will nationalise a beneficiary’s ration card by a process called Aadhaar Seeding.

India's GSAT-24 satellite launched, entire capacity leased to Tata Play

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched communication satellite GSAT-24 from Kourou in French Guiana. GSAT-24, built by ISRO for NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), was launched by French company Arianespace.

GSAT-24 is a 24-Ku band communication satellite weighing 4180 kg with pan-India coverage for meeting DTH application needs.

Indian women's Wrestling claimed Under-17 Asian Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

India lifted the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds, one silver and one bronze. Japan had to be content with the runners-up trophy with 143 points and Mongolia finished third with 138 points.
