India carries out maiden flight-test of sea-based ballistic missile defence interceptor

India successfully conducted a maiden flight trial of a sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile off the coast of Odisha.The missile test was conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation & the Indian Navy.

BMDs are capable of intercepting incoming long-range nuclear missiles and hostile aircraft including AWACS (airborne warning and control systems).
