The Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) is conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) to assess the contribution of unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises in India.
Key Findings of ASUSE 2024:
1) More than one-third of India's total labour force engaged in the unincorporated sector is concentrated in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal.
2) The unincorporated sector includes small businesses, street vendors, household enterprises, and self-employed individuals that operate without formal registration.
3) Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of workers in small-scale manufacturing and retail trade.
4) Maharashtra has a large concentration of urban informal workers in service sectors like construction, hospitality, and small-scale industries.
5) West Bengal has a significant share of workers in unorganized textile, jute, and handicrafts industries.
