What is CRILC?
• CRILC (Central Repository of Information on Large Credits) is a database maintained by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to monitor and track large borrowings in the banking system.
• It helps in identifying potential credit risks and preventing large-scale loan defaults.
Special Mention Account (SMA) Classification:
• Borrowers with repayment delays are classified into Special Mention Accounts (SMA):
• SMA-0: Principal/interest overdue for 1-30 days
• SMA-1: Overdue for 31-60 days
• SMA-2: Overdue for 61-90 days
RBI's Reporting Requirement:
• As per RBI's revised guidelines, all Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) must report credit information, including SMA classification, for borrowers with an aggregate exposure of ₹5 crore or more to CRILC.
• This helps RBI in monitoring large corporate exposures and assessing financial stability risks.
