In the following question, four statements are given which are based on the same or different theme and may or may not contain an error. Choose the one that is grammatically and meaningfully incorrect.
1.Two years later he died, leaving his widow in poor circumstances; a second child, another son, was posthumously born.
2.The top was clean except for accessories and a few letters standing upright in a sorter.
3.Grow tomato crops during a severe drought proved to be formidable for one farmer.
4.Although he was twice as old as us, he became the life and soul of the company.
5.None of these
Correct Answer : 3
Solution :
The incorrect sentence is mentioned in option (c). A sentence usually starts with a subject followed by a verb and object so a noun is required at the beginning of the sentence to follow the sentence structure. Thus, the gerund 'growing' should replace the verb 'grow' to make the sentence correct.
Hence, option (c) is correct.
NOTE/-
Gerund: Gerund is a verb form that functions as a noun, ending in -ing. A gerund can be either the subject or object of a sentence in English. Example: "Everybody enjoyed her dancing and singing at the party." The words 'dancing' and 'singing' are gerunds.
