Read the paragraph below and answer the question that follows.
The Supreme Court of India has stated that the ban on firecrackers in Delhi and other parts of the country was not a target on a particular community but to protect the right to life of citizens. A bench of Justices M R Shah and A S Bopanna also slammed the manufacturers of firecrackers who are selling fake green crackers. The court said that it is there to protect the rights of people and can even pass an order for CBI investigation concerning those manufacturers who are selling fake green crackers.
Which of the following is a strong argument for or against banning firecrackers?
I. Firecracker industry employs children below fourteen years of age despite a clear ban on such employment.
II. The manufacturers of the firecrackers industry have been selling green crackers which are mislabelled.
III. There cannot be a ban on sale of firecrackers as the constitution provides right to practice any profession of choice.
1.All of the above
2.Only II
3.Only III
4.Only I and II
5.Only II and III
Correct Answer : 3
Solution :
· I is a not strong argument as merely a tangential problem does not mean banning the whole practice or industry. The child labour problem can be separately solved and if the entire industry is banned for this reason it creates a bigger problem of violation of right to practice a profession. A strong argument will not create a bigger problem.
· II is another weak statement for the similar reason as stated above. Misleading someone is a separate problem warranting a separate solution and not banning the whole industry as such.
· III is strong as it provides sound reasoning in the social context and provides a valid challenge for banning the whole industry in light of the fundamental rights of the manufacturers.
Therefore, the correct answer is option c).
