The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme was launched in 2015 to tackle the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in India, which reflects the unequal treatment and discrimination faced by the girl child. The scheme is a tri-ministerial initiative involving the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education, focusing on:
• Preventing gender-biased sex-selective elimination
• Ensuring the survival and protection of the girl child
• Ensuring education and participation of the girl child
