Let the capacity of both containers be 2 litre.

Therefore quantity of milk in 1^st container = 1/4 * 2 = 500ml

Quantity of milk in 2^nd container = 3/8 * 2 = 750ml

When both containers content is placed in a big container, quantity of milk in it = 1250ml and quantity of water = 2750ml. Therefore the new ratio = 1250:2750 = 5:11
