Article 310 of the Indian Constitution deals with the Tenure of office of persons serving the Union or a State. It establishes the doctrine of "pleasure tenure," meaning that all civil servants of the Union and the States hold office during the pleasure of the President or the Governor, respectively.
However, this doctrine is subject to the provisions of Article 311, which provides certain safeguards to civil servants against arbitrary dismissal or removal. Together, Articles 309 - 311 form the constitutional basis for the service conditions, appointment, and dismissal of government employees in India.
