All the candidates must know the RBI Grade B Eligibility before applying for the post. We will look at all factors related to RBI Grade B Eligibility in this article. It will include age limit, age relaxation, the reference date for meeting eligibility, educational qualification, and nationality. Also, note that the below-mentioned details are as per the 2022 notification. The 2023 notification is not yet released so all the details mentioned here are as expected.
RBI Grade B Eligibility Criteria

RBI Grade B Reference Date
The reference date for meeting the RBI Grade B Eligibility was 1st January 2022 as per the 2022 cycle. For 2023, it is expected to be 1st January 2023.
RBI Grade B Age Limit
The minimum age to apply for the RBI Grade B officer exam is 21 years. You should have completed 21 years of age as of the reference date. Your birth date should not be after 1st January 2001.
The maximum age to apply for the RBI Grade B officer exam is 30 years of age. This means you should not be 30 years of age. As per the RBI Grade B 2022 notification pdf, your birth date should not be prior to 2nd January 1992.
(The candidate should not have been born before 2nd Jan 1992 and not after 1st Jan 2001.)
RBI Grade B Category-Wise Age Relaxations
The upper age limit extension for RBI Grade B exam aspirants is as mentioned below:
- For SC/ST Candidates: 5 years
- For OBC Candidates: 3 years
- For candidates having experience as an officer in Scheduled Commercial Banks, Public Sector Insurance Companies, and All India Financial Institutions (AIFI) namely Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Housing Bank (NHB) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), as also prior experience in Reserve Bank of India, the upper age limit is relaxed to the extent of the number of completed years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For such candidates, the upper age limit should not exceed 33 years including experience. For experience, the probationary period will not be reckoned.
- Ex-employees of banking institutions whose services had to be terminated for reasons of economy or because of the bank going into liquidation and personnel retrenched from Government Offices after at least one year's service and currently registered with Employment Exchange: 5 years
- Candidates who had been domiciled in the State of Jammu and Kashmir during the period from the 1st January 1980 to the 31st day of December 1989: 5 years
- Ex-servicemen: 5 years
- ECOs/SSCOs: 5 years
- Persons with disabilities: 10 years

Any candidate who doesn't fulfill RBI Grade B Eligibility can be rejected at any stage of the selection process. So, candidates must make sure to check the below-given table for RBI Grade B Education.

Master's Degree in Economics in any of the sub-categories of economics i.e. agricultural/ business/ developmental/ applied, etc., with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters /years from a recognized Indian or Foreign University /Institute.
Note: SC, ST, and PwBD candidates having a second class with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years in Master's Degree examination or equivalent recognized qualifications are eligible to apply.
Desirable: A Doctorate Degree in Economics or research or teaching experience in Economics or publications in standard journals would be considered as an additional qualification. Candidates having M.Phil. Degree and Doctorate Degree from a recognized Indian/Foreign University/Institute in the specified subjects will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit by 2 years and 4 years respectively. d. (i) Candidates having a Master's Degree with Research/Teaching experience at a recognized Indian/Foreign University/ Institute will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit to the extent of a number of years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For experience, the probationary period will not be reckoned. (ii) The above age relaxations will not be cumulatively available with age relaxations available to various categories as mentioned above. |
Officers in Grade 'B' (DR) - DSIM | Essential: a. A Master's Degree in Statistics/ Mathematical Statistics/ Mathematical Economics/Econometrics/ Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Kharagpur/ Applied Statistics & Informatics from IIT-Bombay with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years; OR b. Master's Degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years and a one-year postgraduate diploma in Statistics or related subjects from an Institute of repute; OR c. M. Stat. Degree of Indian Statistical Institute with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate of all semesters/years; OR d. Post Graduate Diploma in Business Analytics (PGDBA) jointly offered by ISI Kolkata, IIT Kharagpur, and IIM Calcutta with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/years. Note: For SC, ST and PwBD candidates, the minimum marks required for a Master's Degree as in items (a), (b), (c), and (d) above is 50% or an equivalent grade in aggregate of all semesters/ years. Desirable: (i) Candidates with a Doctorate in topics related to the above subjects will be given preference. (ii) Research or teaching experience and publication in standard journals will be considered an additional qualification. Note:
(i) Candidates possessing M.Phil. and PhD qualifications in the specified subjects will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit by 2 years and 4 years respectively. (ii) Candidates with research/teaching experience at a recognized Indian / Foreign University/Institute will be eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit to the extent of the number of years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. (iii) The above age relaxations will not be cumulatively available with age relaxations available to various categories as mentioned above |
Nationality
A candidate must be either:-
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him/her by the Government of India.
