SSC CGL 2022 - Overview

About SSC CGL

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) was established in 1975. It conducts exams like SSC CGL, SSC CHSL, SSC CPO, etc for recruitment of Officers in Group B & Group C. The SSC CGL is the Combined Graduate Level conducted for filling up officer & assistant level posts in various ministries and departments of the Central Government. SSC CGL Recruitment Exam is one of the most popular Government Recruitment Exams in the country as Lakhs of aspirants apply for this exam every year. The various SSC CGL Jobs which a successful candidate can be posted can be classified into 2 broad categories:

  • Desk jobs: Appointed as Upper Division Clerks, Assistants, Auditors, Tax-Assistants, etc.
  • Field jobs: Appointed as Inspectors (preventive officers, examiners, excise and income tax), CBI and narcotics officers, etc.

The Commission has informed in a IMPORTANT NOTICE not to wait till the last date to avoid the possibility of disconnection/ inability or failure to login to the website on account of heavy traffic on the servers during the closing days. NO extension of last date will be given under any circumstances. 

SSC has introduced major changes in the SSC CGL Exam Pattern from 2022 onwards :

  • SSC CGL Tier - I is now only qualifying in nature.
  • Additional sections of Reasoning, General Awareness, Computer Module and Data Entry added in Tier – II
  • Only Tier- II is considered for final merit
  • Tier - III and IV have been scrapped
  • Negative marking changed
  • Post preference to be selected after Tier-II Result
  • Final DV will be done at the concerned departments only. SSC will not conduct DV.

SSC CGL Eligibility

Though there are different criteria for each of the posts filled by the SSC CGL exam, the essential eligibility criteria for this exam are as follows.

Nationality/citizenship

The candidate must be an Indian citizen or of Indian origin or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee.

Essential Educational Qualifications for various posts include :

All other Posts except Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer and JSO

Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.

The candidates who have appeared in their final year of their graduation can also apply, however they must possess Essential qualification on or before the cut-off date i.e .08 October 2022.

Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer

  • Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or Institute.
  • Desirable Qualifications: Chartered Accountant or Cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics.
  • During the period of probation direct recruits shall have to qualify the "Subordinate  Audit/   Accounts   Service   Examination" in respective branches  for  confirmation  and  regular  appointment  as  Assistant  Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer.

Junior Statistical Officer

Bachelor's Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard level;

Or

Bachelor's Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

Filling of SSC CGL Application Form

In order to apply and register candidature for the SSC CGL Exam, the candidates should follow the given steps.

  • Step 1: Go to Staff Selection Commission's official website https://ssc.nic.in/
  • Step 2: Select ‘New User? Register Now.
  • Step 3: Fill the registration form.
  • Step 4: Log in to the registered account with the registration number generated during registration and the password set at the same time.
  • Step 5: Required details must be filled for the application form
  • Step 6: Upload the scanned documents, including the photograph and signature.
  • Step 7: Carefully go through the form that you have filled before selecting the Final Submit button to submit it.
  • Step 8: The application fee of Rs.100 needs to be paid after this; the. The process can be either online or offline.

Application Fee

A payment of Rs 100 has to be made as an application fee by candidates registering to take the SSC CGL exam. Online or offline methods using SBI challan or BHIM, UPI or internet banking, credit card or debit card. However, female candidates and those belonging to reserved categories such as Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disability (PwD), and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) are exempt from the application fee payment.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type.

This component may include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgement, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc.

Quantitative Aptitude

The questions will be designed to test the ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate.

  • Algebra: Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra and Elementary surds (simple problems) and Graphs of Linear Equations.
  • Geometry: Familiarity with elementary geometric figures and facts: Triangle and its various kinds of centres, Congruence and similarity of triangles, Circle and its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles.
  • Mensuration: Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square Base.
  • Trigonometry: Trigonometry, Trigonometric ratios, Complementary angles, Height and distances (simple problems only) Standard Identities
  • Statistics and probability: Use of Tables and Graphs: Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar-diagram, Pie-chart; Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode, standard deviation; calculation of simple probabilities.

Module-II of Section-I of Paper-I (Reasoning and General Intelligence)

Questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. These will include questions on :

Venn Diagrams, Symbolic/ Number Classification, Drawing inferences,

Module-I of Section-II of Paper-I (English Language And Comprehension):

Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and their correct usage; Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms/ Homonyms, Antonyms, Spellings/ Detecting mis-spelt words, Idioms & Phrases, One word substitution, Improvement of Sentences, Active/ Passive Voice of Verbs, Conversion into Direct/ Indirect narration, Shuffling of Sentence parts, Shuffling of Sentences in a passage, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage. To test comprehension, three or more paragraphs will be given and questions based on those will be asked. At least one paragraph should be a simple one based on a book or a story and the other two paragraphs should be on current affairs, based on a report or an editorial.

Module-II of Section-II of Paper-I (General Awareness):

Questions are designed to test the candidates' general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research.

Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I (Computer Proficiency):

  • Computer Basics: Organization of a computer, Central Processing Unit (CPU), input/ output devices, computer memory, memory organization, back- up devices, PORTs, Windows Explorer. Keyboard shortcuts.
  • Software: Windows Operating system including basics of Microsoft Office like MS word, MS Excel and Power Point etc.
  • Working with Internet and e-mails: Web Browsing & Searching, Downloading & Uploading, Managing an E-mail Account, e-Banking.
  • Basics of networking and cyber security: Networking devices and protocols, Network and information security threats (like hacking, virus, worms, Trojan etc.) and preventive measures.

SSC CGL Exam Admit Card

Admit Cards for SSC CGL 2022 Tier-1 exam will be sent out about one week before the examination. The Admit Card's release will be released on a region-wise basis on the Commission's Regional websites. Steps for downloading the SSC CGL scorecard 2022

Following the methods below, candidates can check their SSC CGL  results and download their Tier 1 2022 scorecards:

  1. Go to the official website of SSC CGL https://ssc.nic.in/
  2. Type your login details and password.
  3. Fill in the captcha code that appears on the screen.
