What is the eligibility criteria for RBI Assistant 2026?

 

Before applying, candidates must ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions set by RBI. If a candidate does not meet the eligibility criteria, their application may be rejected at any stage of the recruitment process. The eligibility criteria include educational qualification, age limit, nationality, and language proficiency.

Educational Qualification
 

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (pass class for SC/ST/PwBD candidates) as on 01 February 2026 and should have knowledge of word processing on PC. Ex-servicemen (except dependents) must either be graduates or have passed matriculation/equivalent from the Armed Forces with at least 15 years of defense service.

Age Limit
 

The age limit is 20 to 28 years as on 01 February 2026. Candidates must have been born between 02 February 1998 and 01 February 2006 (both days inclusive). Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government norms.

Nationality
 

A candidate applying for the RBI Assistant exam must be a citizen of India. Candidates who are subjects of Nepal or Bhutan, Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962, or persons of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanent settlement in India are also eligible. Such candidates must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, which is verified at the time of appointment.

Language Proficiency
 

Candidates must have working knowledge of the official or local language of the state or Union Territory they are applying for. This means the candidate should be able to read, write, speak, and understand the local language. If a candidate does not have proof of language proficiency, they will be required to qualify the Language Proficiency Test (LPT) conducted by RBI. Failure to clear the LPT will lead to disqualification, even after clearing the main examination.
