What is the SSC CHSL Work Profile?
The SSC CHSL 2026 notification does not prescribe one uniform day-to-day job description for each post. Candidates may be allotted to different Ministries, Departments, Offices, Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies or Tribunals, so the exact duties can vary according to the user department. For post selection, candidates should therefore focus on the distinctions SSC formally specifies, including:

What is the Skill Test for SSC CHSL DEO Posts?

What is the Typing Test for LDC/JSA?
Candidates appearing for LDC/JSA have to qualify the Typing Test. The required typing speed is:
- English: 35 words per minute
- Hindi: 30 words per minute
These correspond to approximately 10,500 key depressions per hour in English and 9,000 key depressions per hour in Hindi.
The normal duration of the Typing Test is 10 minutes. Candidates choosing Hindi are required to type using Mangal Font.

What is the SSC CHSL Job Location?
Candidates selected through SSC CHSL 2026 are liable to serve anywhere in India because all posts under the examination carry All India Service Liability (AISL). The user Ministry, Department or Organisation may also allot a candidate a particular State, Union Territory or Zone. The concerned department may require the candidate to acquire proficiency in the local language of the allotted State/UT/Zone for confirmation to the post. Therefore, candidates should not assume that:
- LDC/JSA guarantees a Delhi posting,
- DEO is restricted to metropolitan cities, or
- DEO Grade A automatically means posting in a particular Ministry.
The actual posting depends on the final allotment and requirements of the user department.
How Does SSC CHSL Post Preference 2026 Work?
Post preference is an important part of the SSC CHSL selection process. SSC will obtain candidates' preferences for various posts and departments through an Online Option Form before declaration of the First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA)/result. Candidates should remember:
- A candidate will not be considered for a post or department that they have not included in their preferences.
- Once submitted, the preferences are final and irreversible.
- Requests to change post or department later will not be entertained.
- Candidates who fail to submit their post preferences within the prescribed period will not be considered for any post in the FRTA/result.
- SSC will not provide another opportunity to submit preferences if the candidate misses the stipulated period.
How is the final SSC CHSL post allotted?
Final selection is based on the candidate's performance in Tier II and the post preferences submitted. Once a candidate receives the first available preference according to merit, they are not considered for subsequent options. The final allotment is made on a merit-cum-preference basis. Is there a Physical Test for SSC CHSL Posts?
Most of the post-specific physical and medical provisions highlighted in the notification concern Lower Division Clerk vacancies in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). SSC specifically advises candidates to ensure that they satisfy the prescribed physical, physical-efficiency and medical standards before opting for LDC in BRO. Once a post is allotted, SSC will not change the allotment merely because the candidate later fails to meet the post-specific physical, medical or educational standards.
Who can Apply for LDC in BRO?
There is an important gender-specific condition for BRO. Only male candidates are eligible for BRO vacancies, if any such vacancies are reported. Candidates opting for LDC in BRO must also satisfy the physical and medical standards detailed in Annexure XVI of the official notification. BRO has all-India transferable liability, and candidates finally selected for BRO must pass the prescribed medical fitness test.
What happens if a candidate fails BRO standards after allotment?
Candidates should choose BRO preference carefully. If a candidate is allotted a post based on merit and preference but later fails to fulfil its prescribed physical, medical or educational requirements, the candidature for that allocation can be rejected. SSC does not automatically shift such a candidate to another lower preference.
What happens after final selection in SSC CHSL?
Candidates appointed through SSC CHSL 2026 will ordinarily be placed on probation for two years. During the probation period, candidates may be required to:
- undergo prescribed training, or
- pass examinations prescribed by the controlling authority.
After successful completion of probation, candidates may be confirmed to the post if considered fit by the controlling authority.
