Nationality / Citizenship

(i) a Citizen of India
(ii) a subject of Nepal
(iii) a subject of Bhutan
(iv) a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
(v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India, provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) & (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Proficiency in local language

For hiring Officer Scale I and Office Assistants (Multipurpose), you need to know the local language:

  • If you studied the state’s language in 8th grade or higher at a government-recognized school or have a certificate for it, you are considered proficient.
  • If you don’t meet this requirement when selected, you will have six months from your start date to learn the local language. The RRBs may extend this time, but it can’t go beyond the probation period.

IBPS RRB Selection Process 2024

The IBPS RRB Selection Process includes two stages such as Prelims and Mains. Conversely, the IBPS PO or Officer Scale I exam comprises three stages such as Prelims, Mains, and Interviews. Meanwhile, for IBPS Officer Grade II (General Banking Officer and Specialist Cadre) and III, there’s a single-window exam known as the IBPS Officer Grade II Exam, followed by an Interview. To secure a post in any of these roles, candidates need to pass each stage of the respective examinations.

Officer Scale 1: Prelims, Mains, Interview

  • Preliminary Exam: Candidates appearing for the Officer Scale 1 post first undergo a preliminary examination. This exam serves as the initial screening process to assess candidates’ basic aptitude and skills in areas such as reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and English language.
  • Main Exam: Candidates who qualify in the preliminary exam proceed to the main examination. The main exam assesses candidates’ proficiency in more detailed subjects related to banking, finance, and general awareness.
  • Interview: After successfully clearing the mains exam, candidates are called for a personal interview. The interview aims to evaluate candidates’ communication skills, personality traits, and suitability for the Officer Scale 1 role.

Office Assistant: Prelims and Mains

  • Preliminary Exam: Similar to Officer Scale 1, candidates applying for the Office Assistant post also undergo a preliminary examination. This exam assesses basic aptitude and skills required for the role.
  • Main Exam: Candidates who qualify in the preliminary exam move on to the main examination. The main exam evaluates candidates’ proficiency in more detailed subjects relevant to banking operations and customer service.
  • Officer Scale 2 & 3: Single Exam, Interview

Officer Scale 2 & 3: Single Exam, Interview

  • Single Exam: Candidates applying for Officer Scale 2 & 3 posts are required to appear for a single examination. This exam assesses candidates’ specialized knowledge and skills in their respective fields, such as finance, marketing, or agriculture.
  • Interview: After clearing the single examination, candidates are called for a personal interview. The interview aims to assess candidates’ expertise, experience, and suitability for the Officer Scale 2 & 3 roles.
