SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2025 For Prelims and Mains, LPT

SBI Clerk Exam Pattern: The SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2025 includes three stages: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Language Proficiency Test (LPT). The Prelims is a 60-minute objective test with sections on English, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning. The Mains covers four sections—General/Financial Awareness, English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning & Computer Aptitude—lasting 2 hours and 40 minutes. Candidates clearing Mains must pass the LPT to prove local language proficiency. Final selection is based on Mains performance and LPT qualification.

The SBI Clerk Exam Pattern 2025 consists of three stages: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Language Proficiency Test (LPT). Candidates must qualify for each stage to be selected as a Junior Associate in the State Bank of India (SBI). Below is the detailed structure of each stage.

SBI Clerk Prelims Exam Pattern


The preliminary examination is the first stage of the SBI Clerk selection process. It is an online objective test with three sections: English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability.

  • Each question carries one mark.
  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • The test is available in English, Hindi, and regional languages.

SBI Clerk Mains Exam Pattern


Candidates who clear the Preliminary Examination are eligible for the Mains Exam. It is also an online objective test, covering four sections: General/Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude.

SBI Clerk Language Proficiency Test (LPT)


The Language Proficiency Test (LPT) is conducted for candidates who qualify for the Mains Examination. It ensures candidates are proficient in the official language of the state/UT for which they have applied.

  • Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the official/local language of the respective state/UT.
  • The test may include writing passages, reading comprehension, and verbal communication assessment.
  • Candidates who fail the LPT will be disqualified, even after clearing the Mains Exam.
  • Exemption: Candidates who studied the local language in their 10th or 12th standard are usually exempted from LPT.

Final selection is based on Mains Exam scores only (Prelims scores are not considered for final merit).

  • Candidates must qualify for the Language Proficiency Test (LPT) to be considered for final selection.
  • The final merit list is prepared state-wise and category-wise.
  • Candidates should ensure they meet all the eligibility criteria and prepare accordingly for each stage of the SBI Clerk selection process.
