The Preliminary Examination is an objective test for 100 marks, conducted online. It consists of 3 sections with separate timings for each section.
- The test is of 1-hour duration.
- There is no sectional cut-off in the Preliminary Examination.
- Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Examination based on category-wise merit lists.
- Approximately 10 times the number of vacancies in each category will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern
The SBI PO Main Examination is conducted online and consists of:
- Objective Test for 200 marks.
- Descriptive Test for 50 marks (administered immediately after the Objective Test).
- Candidates must type their Descriptive Test answers on the computer.

- The Objective Test has a duration of 3 hours, with separate timings for each section.
- The Descriptive Test lasts for 30 minutes and assesses communication skills such as emails, reports, situation analysis, and precis writing.
- There is a sectional cut-off in the Main Examination.

Penalty for Wrong Answers in SBI PO Online Exam
Applicable to both Preliminary and Main Examinations:
- A penalty will be imposed for incorrect answers marked in the Objective Tests.
- For each incorrect response, 1/4th of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty to calculate the corrected score.
- If a question is left blank (i.e., no answer is marked by the candidate), no penalty will be applied for that question.
SBI PO Final Selection Process
- Candidates must qualify Phase-II (Main Examination) and Phase-III (Group Exercise & Interview) separately to be considered for final selection.
- The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination (Phase-I) will not be included in the final merit list.
- The final merit list is prepared by adding the marks obtained in Phase-II (Objective & Descriptive Tests) and Phase-III, normalized to a total of 100 marks.
SBI PO Normalization of Marks
- The final merit list is based on the aggregate normalized marks (out of 100), and candidates are selected from the top merit-ranked individuals in each category.
