This recruitment drive by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is for the post of Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) and a total of 147 vacancies (including backlogs) have been announced in the following streams:

  • Legal Stream
  • Information Technology Stream 
  • Engineering Stream (Civil & Electrical)
  • Research stream
  • Official Language Stream

SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern 2020 –Selection Procedure for Grade A Officer

Mode of selection shall be a three-stage process i.e.

I. Phase I (on-line screening examination consisting of two papers of 100 marks each)

Paper 1 – 100 Marks 

Paper 2 – 100 Marks 

II. Phase II (on-line examination consisting of two papers of 100 marks each) and

Paper 1 – 100 Marks 

Paper 2 – 100 Marks 

III. Phase III (Interview).

Aggregate Cut off for Phase 2 – 40%.

Note:

  • For candidates who have applied in multiple streams, Paper-II will be conducted in various shifts, the timings of which will be intimated in the Hall Ticket.
  • There shall be negative marking (1/4th of marks assigned to the question) for Paper 2 in Phase II (except IT stream for which details shall be informed in due course).
  • There shall be a cut-off of a minimum of 30% for Paper 1 and a cut-off of a minimum of 40% for Paper 2 in Phase II.
  • Candidates would need to secure separate cut-off in each paper as mentioned at (iv) above as well as aggregate cut-off marks of 40% in the Phase II exam (weightage of 1/3rd for Paper 1 and 2/3rd for Paper 2) to be shortlisted for Phase III. 
  • Subject to the criteria mentioned at (v) above, candidates equaling 3 times the number of vacancies shall be shortlisted, in order of merit, for Phase III i.e. the Interview. A list of candidates shortlisted for Interviews will be made available on the SEBI website.

SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern – Phase 3 (Interview)

Interview: Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for the Interview. The application fee shall not be refunded to the candidates not shortlisted for Phase II and Interview. The candidate may opt for an interview either in Hindi or English. The weightage of marks obtained in Phase II will be 85%, while marks obtained in the interview shall be given a weightage of 15%.

MODE OF SELECTION:

The mode of selection shall be a three-stage process i.e. Phase I (on-line screening examination for 200 marks), Phase II (on-line examination consisting of three papers for total 300 marks), and Phase III (Interview).

Phase I On-Line Examination:
An online screening examination of two hours duration consisting of Multiple Choice questions for 200 marks. The exam will consist of:

Phase 1 Exam Pattern

Last year in 2018 the Phase 1 for different streams contains the questions asked from General Awareness, English Language, Test of reasoning,  Awareness, and Securities Market. For 2020 Phase 1 has been distributed in two papers i.e Paper 1 and Paper 2. Topics to be covered under Paper 1 for all streams are as follows:

i. General Awareness (including some questions related to Financial Sector of easy to moderate difficulty level),

ii. English Language,

iii. Quantitative Aptitude and

iv. Test of Reasoning.

In the last year’s 2018 SEBI recruitment notification the phase 2 on-line examination consists of three papers of total 300 marks. The papers for different streams are as follows:

General

  • Paper I: Securities Market
  • Paper-II: English (Writing Skills)
  • Paper III: Economic & Social Issues and Finance & Management

Legal / InformationTechnology / Engineering

Phase 3 Exam Pattern: Interview

There are no changes as such in Phase 3 of the SEBI Grade A Exam Pattern. Only the shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The weightage of marks obtained in Phase II will be 85%, while marks obtained in the interview shall be given a weightage of 15%.
