SEBI Grade A Syllabus Overview

The SEBI Grade A syllabus is designed to assess a candidate's understanding of financial markets, economics, and their chosen specialization. It is divided into Phase 1 (objective screening) and Phase 2 (stream-specific) sections. Knowing the syllabus beforehand allows candidates to focus on high-priority topics, avoid wasting time on irrelevant sections, and balance preparation alongside a 9-to-5 job.

Phase 1

Phase 1 is primarily a preliminary screening to assess general aptitude, reasoning ability, quantitative skills, and awareness of financial and economic developments. It helps filter candidates for the more advanced Phase 2. Candidates are tested on:

  • General Awareness – Especially financial, economic, and securities market knowledge.
  • Quantitative Aptitude – Basic arithmetic, algebra, data interpretation, and problem-solving.
  • Reasoning Ability – Logical reasoning, puzzles, seating arrangement, coding-decoding, etc.
  • English Language – Reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and verbal ability.

Phase 2 (Stream-Specific)

Phase 2 focuses on domain knowledge and is tailored to the candidate's chosen stream. It evaluates both analytical and conceptual understanding, along with the ability to apply knowledge in practical scenarios. The streams include:

  • General Stream – Financial and economic awareness, management concepts, and market regulations.
  • Legal Stream – Company law, SEBI Act, contracts, corporate governance, and legal compliance.
  • IT Stream – Computer systems, programming, networking, cyber security, and data analytics.
  • Research Stream – Economics, statistics, econometrics, financial modelling, and research methodology.
